Title: Environment - Scifi scene
Name: Mathias Verhasselt
Country: France
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop

This is a rework of a speed paint I did a bit earlier. You can see the original speed paint in my cgportfolio. Took about 5 hours total, I used a simple wireframe as perspective guide.
Hope you like.

Mathias,

Seriously now, I think this is one of your best pieces. Composition wise that is amazing. My eyes followed the action points with no bumps and the lighting is so well distributed that its a pleasure to look at it.

Tres Bon Mon petit Con!!!

Uh-la-la (something we gonna say a lot here in London together in the summer hehe)

Radagast : thank you!

kornel : cheers man.

tomas slobodnik : thanks for the stars :)

Velarion : thank you!

minminxu : xie xie ni. I like when things are not overdetailed though, but it's a matter of taste :)

Art2 : thanks.

rawwad : thank you

Mario : thanks cuzao ! glad to hear the compo works well for you.

gainix : thank you.

Vahn : danke schön!

Natascha : thank you, glad you like it :)

Ila : hehehe yeah I know what you mean :p

prasa : thanks

varun : hehe thanks my friend.

kbarts : thank you

Rebecca : thanks, you deserve kimchi now. Whats up with the new avatar O_O

e338 : thanks man, I'm glad you like it. Good to hear it kept the dynamics, it's fun because some people don't think it did, and some do. Oh well.

flyingP : thanks but now I want a more thorough crit :p

Riddick : merci.

Deeug : thanks.

pimeto: thanks but what is a finished pic? I personnaly like sketchy and loose styles that let the immagination close the gaps. Usually overdetailed pics are very static. I actually think, seriously, that I overdetailed some parts and should have tried simplifying some things.

almaghool : thanks

Excellent work!! Love the deep water colour style.

The mood and subject matter make me think of the HalfLife2 city17 (about 50 years after the game takes place though, if you see what I mean?...=]-)

Awesome Gallery as well, I hadn't noticed a lot of those images were by the same artist!

I think you nailed the right spot between too loose and too static. I like you're speed paint, too, but it was too busy. In the finished one your eyes focus on all the right things, which is hard to achieve. Well, I guess not for you!

My computer has a folder where I put any paintings where I like the color, comp, or anything. It is about half filled with your speed paints, so thanks for the inspiration, M@.

Trop trop pure, incroyable perspective et éclairage, comme d'hab
Always a pleasure to see new work from you Mathias, great character design too! I'd love to see the character refined as a stand alone piece, his stance has attitude!

ps: I didn't read at first you used max for the perspective layout, interesting method

Impressive piece. Like in all of your works the lighting is top-notch. Colors are great as well, makes it look very autumn like but warm. Great work as usual.

I like it a lot, M@. Well deserved front page ^^ The composition is awesome and the lighting too. Could we see the 3D render you used as perspective reference (I guess that's why you used 3DMax), please.
I admire your work. You've got a keen eye for realistic lighting. I hope I'll be able to do that myself one day (in a not too distand future).
Take care.

flyingP : thanks but now I want a more thorough crit :p

:D fair enough

and I sort of have to think about it my self, was just sort of a gutt feeling as I saw it last night. His attention is off picture which sort of seems a bit odd with the ship approaching in the background, he almost looks a bit like a gunslinger ready to draw at someone we cannot see. The stance seems to relaxed to be on gaurd and if he is waiting on the ship it he's paying it no attention it would seem....just 'feels' a bit disjointed to me

Sweet light and colors of course. But i have to admit to spending some time looking for hexagons  (they occur quite often in your work ;) ), and not finding any. Bummer.

Huracan : thanks!

carbonmatter : thank you. Very cool work on your site btw.

BlackNull : merci! yeah it would be cool to do in 3D for instance. But I'm lazy :D

Pufferfish : kiitos Jari . Now post your boxy bitch!

Igor Sandman : thanks! sure, see the wireframe in the bottom of post.

flyingP : ah yes. Andrew Ley made that suggestion on another forum, you're right about that.

azazel : thanks man,, always cool to hear from you. But hey, there ARE hexagons there, and a lot of them. And they are pretty obvious :D

gpepper : merci :)

Dezz : merci a toi!

Haha, I feel like an idiot. For whatever reason (probably one too many beers ;) I read you used max and ps but I thought it was a 3d piece with some photoshop filters applied for the 2d look. I know I know it says 2d in the title but I didn't see that then hehe. Anyways, it's even more impressive then. Honestly I didn't know you had 2d skills. heh

Well I'm gonna go back to my quiet hole now. Later bro.
