Well, tried zbrush instead of Hexagon for normal\displacement maps. I've read through the zbrush-c4d pipeline manual and rendered out a displacement map through md2 with the following settings.

Zbrush
-model subdivision 6
-32 bit RGB: DE-LCGK-EAEAEA-4D_32 (also tried other supported formats)
-dpsubpix 3
-border 2

C4D
Strength 100%
HDRI gamma 1

The created displacement map looks very weird and doesn't werk well in c4d at all. I've also tried a normal map, which has no issues.

It seems that the contrast\brightness of the displacement map is wrong. If i change the strenght settings etc I won't be able to render out the contour at all.

What am i doing wrong here?

p.s. Hopefully this isn't the 100th message with this issue. I've searched the forums, but couldn't find something with similar issue (only checkerboard patterns etc).

Issue fixed. Seems you have to render out normal maps at the second highest subdivision level, while you have to render out dispacement maps at subdivision 1.

actualy you want to render out all maps at your lowest subdivision level in zbrush...allthough usualy if you try to render your maps at a higher level zbrush just gives you an error
