Hi, i was wondering what the poly count for the game industry (pc) is? I heard 15,000 with normal maps from a higher res model does the trick. I think it depends on what game engine its running on though, so i am not sure?

There are a billion things to consider.
What type of object? In what environment will it show? Will it be animated, will it be static? Will it be seen close up or far away? What engine, what year, what generation? What type of game? What type of effects will go on around it? Will it be covered in a fog? How many of the same object will be visable at the same time?
etc etc

Like Flakk said there are tons of variables. One thing he didnt mention is the word Poly. Sometimes that can mean quad and sometimes it can mean tri which makes a huge difference

Which engines dont tesselate polys ? I thought it was mandatory for 100% games...

character for a mmorpg, so animated of course! Not sure on the enviroment though. So there is really no set standard, either it works or it doesnt? so many variables hahah.

All engines tesselate polys to my knowledge. I was talking about creating models. I have been told in the past when making a character that my poly limit was 4000. After making the character 4000tris, I was told that they actually meant 4000quads

I also went to a graduation show for game art and the reels showed off the models with quad counts rather than tri counts which of course made them seem much better than they were
