Hey Gang,

I did this a few weeks ago. It isn't finished yet but I don't think I'll have time to keep working on it for a while and decided to post what I have so far.
This was my first attempt at rigging and boy is there a lot to know!
A great rig is so important to creating a good animation. And my rig stinks!:annoyed:
So Goosh...if you are out there, I think you should take a crack at it! Your IK Joe Rig RULES!!!
Daniel Lara Martinez supplied the model and Ciceto is a really fun character.
I experienced some rendering problems near the end of the clip where the floor does some weird things. Disappears and such.
If anybody knows what has caused this I would greatly appreciate knowing the solution!
I didn't rig the top of his head for secondary animation as I planned on using a jiggle deformer. But that proved to be quite unpredictable.
Anyway. I hope you like it. Crits and suggestions welcome.

Hey Slurry,
First off I am no expert in animation and my opinions are just opinions. I could be wrong.

Just saw your animation. I like it. I think the first part is excellent when he skids into the frame and catches his breath. And the anticipation for the run is great.
When he is running his legs seems to stretch out too far. Somethings wrong there I just can't tell what though. Maybe it's just me.
After he hits the sign and is on the ground his actions are too subdued. I think that when people smash there head that hard they feel there head to see if there is any bumping or bleeding. I think more facial expressions are nessecary. The eyes work really good though.
At the end when he opens his eyes wide, there should be more suprise there.
Thats all for my critique. I think you did a really excellent job on the first part. Then after that it seems like you rushed through it. sorry if that seems harsh but the middle and end isn't of the same quality as the beginning.
keep it up!

Making any big rock commercials lately?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the crit.
I totally agree with you. I am still learning the program and this animation was for a school assignment. So, yeah, I WAS rushing it at the end!
The face has no expressions because I didn't create blend shapes for it (didn't know how at the time!) and I was hoping to get away with just using the eyes in a simple way.
As for the legs, there is definitely something screwy there...I think they are stretching too far and the feet seem to stick a little at the end. An extra key frame at the end of the cycle perhaps.

I haven't made a Big Rock commercial for a couple of years!! HAha...I'd like to do it again though. It's fun and the party is always a good time!! Free BEER!!!
Have you entered the contest before?

I think I may try rigging Ciceto again and taking another stab at the animation. I've learned alot about rigging since then and I hope that will help make animating him easier.

Thanks for taking the time to crit my work and offer suggestions. I'll keep them in mind for when I redo it!

I have entered the Big Rock contest twice. Got to the finals once. It was a blast. I would love to do another one as well.
I wonder if there are any "all CG" entries this year.

Later,
Mark
