I am not sure but I think this is not about Miyazaki Hayao, but Miyazaki Goro (who is Miyazaki Hayao's son). It will still be produced by Ghibli studio.
About Miyazaki Hayao: there is a Miyazaki-Moebius exposition in Paris (http://www.miyazaki-moebius.com/) and he directed 3 shorts in 2006:
Hoshi wo katta hi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756217/) (2006)
Mizugumo monmon (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0768132/) (2006)
Yadosagashi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756260/) (2006)

Dammit!
I was looking on here and Nausicaa.net loads of times today to see what Miyazaki is up to next. Instead, it turns out to be that earthsea thing which i think looks a bit dull and unoriginal.

Yes this movie Gedo Senki http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/icons/titles/ged_title.png (Tales from Earthsea), is directed by Miyazaki Hayao son's (Goro). You can download a trailerhere (http://www.catsuka.com/videos_anim.php?type=divers)
And you can read a Google translation of Miyazaki Goro's blog here (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ghibli.jp%2Fged_02%2F&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools)
Where he writes about the fact that his father does not want him to become a director!!! That's kind of weird...

Not sure if they were refering to "Earthsea" on that article... the interview has already aired? Anybody on Japan could confirm this?
About Goro Miyazaki, as I understand that´s his first work with animation, and the project started as a non-Ghibli film (if that´s so, I can totally understand why his father was a little reluctant about it, at first). Is he the same Miyazaki´s son that used to work with gardening?
