In an effort to be lazy at work, I've created a useful FAQ of questions which are genuinely asked frequently.

Itīs still a lot of money but:
ATI FireGL cards are at the same pricepoint as a midrange Nvidia Gforce Ti 4200 Ti (FireGL 8700) and FireGL 8800 is at par with Nvidia Gforce Ti 4600 - thereīs been a pricedrop a couple of months back.

One little thing about the CPU thing...
I read on the AMD site (I think) about the athlonXP naming scheme...
The new XP 1800+ and so forth aren't "faster than an 1800 Mhz P4",
it's "faster than an old athlon T-Bird would be running at 1800 Mhz."
I can prolly find the quote if you're interested.

So you say the fastest mac to the fastest p4 is 20:70 in cinema...
I'm still committed to macs...so wtf is going on with the processors? IBM should be doing better... trying to do architectural radiosity scenes on a 800mhz g4 is killing me

Mike Motorola make the processors for the moment, but IBM processors should be in G4s or G5s or whatever they want to call them by the end of the year.Personally I hope Motorola get the boot.

yeah motorola fell so far behind it isn't even funny, but even the articles I have read on the new IBM processor, while they sound way better and have higher Mhx they are still way behind in MHz compared to pentium, and now pentium has announced all P4s coming out now will have true multi threading so a 3GHz P4 is like having a dual 1.5 P4. I'm trying to hold on to AMD, won't be able to upgrade anytime soon but pentium sure is taking the lead again.

of course when I can actually afford to upgrade again I'll likely have to be one of the ones to go to the new 64 bit just to be first on the block ;)

Ya I agree Kai :)

I read recently that the new duals etc {all processors} are now getting to a point where its getting very difficult to cool them successfully.Maybe we will get to a point where its the cooling technology we will have to wait for to catch up.

yeah found out when leaving my pc crunching a render out four four hours while sleeping with the window and door to my room closed is not a good idea, it reached the warning temperature, closed everything and shutdown :(

I hav three fans too.

Yeah new av, possibly for my new moderator job :)

No not here at creative cow coming soon if things go right. Yet another forum to keep my life busy in yet another piece of software.

Its traced over roughtly in an app called toonboom studio V2 which I may be moderating there pretty soon. did it as a practice in learning how to draw with the program (I got asked about moderating before I had ever used it cause I know the high end version and some flash, its sortof in the middle but totally in a world of its own.)

So uhhm yeah anyways, make thicker is a really handy one , though I haven't used it a whole bunch its always good when i need it, makes life easy. The new translucent shader for R8 is an awesome one too. though its learning curve isn't too steep its still take a while to learn since the plugin requires patience in use as to not freeze c4d, and patience when rendering as its complicated and can be slow
