The Journey Begins Challenge (2D) Entry: Jacob Gemme

I am new here so first of all Hi. This is a great site. I am starting a little late but there is still 24 days left. Plenty of time. I joined this contest because I think it will be a fun way to try out Artrage. It is a great program that I learned about after signing up here.

Anyway here is my first concept sketch. Sorry for the scan lines. I had to turn the darkness way up on my scanner because I tend to draw very lightly.

The little cricket is looking up before starting his journey at the migrating birds and the butterfly.

I might move the viewer further away from the cricket, not sure yet.

Here is my final concept sketch. Unless it is'nt. What is hard to see in the scan is that the cricket is standing on the root of the tree and those circles rear the top are migrating birds.

This is the image that I will bring in to ArtRage and color in. I didn't sketch the background or the tree. I will do those when I color it.

I have drawn in the background. Its a bush now instead of a tree and there are no more birds. It made more sense that way. Also I traced the characters real quick so you can see where they are going to go. I might add some leaves and maybe A turtles foot where the image starts to get blurry.
