View Full Version : Hill Giant
Hi all, this is my newest monster model, a giant.
Yeah, I know, a completely symmetrical model again :p
But..I do have to take into consideration the technicalities. This guy is the biggest "monster" in the game so far, and I only have a 256x256 texture to work with, so the bigger he is, the more it's stretched, so I really wanted to make use of the texture space as best as possible.
The texture is shown here in this pic as 512, will be resized to 256 for the game.
Please let me know what you think about the texture, and any places you think I can improve on. The model has 918 triangles total.

I compare you character's face to your avatar, assuming you did both and I say the giant's face needs some work. but beyond that I cant say more.
Thanks. I was having a problem getting the eyes to look good, so yeah you're right..I think some more work on the face would help. I'll work on it later on today.
nice work, really like your style. especially the boots are very nice! My only crits would be to add more lighting information to the texture and probably define the upper arm-muscles more - a "Giant" is a little more muscular imho :) btw is it possible that your upper arm is longer than the lower arm? maybe it's because of the perspective, but it seems like the lower arm + hand is just as long as the upper arm.

i would make the stitches less dark
Thankyou for the crits guys!
I fixed the face up a bit, I'm pretty happy with the eyes now.
I also defined his arm muscles a bit more..I dont' want him to be very muscular however. I had a hard time getting the shadows to look right on the arms..I think I just need more practice and references in doing it.
And thanks for the comment about the stitches Dennispls, I think they do look a lot better now that they're lighter..now that I look back on the old one they looked more like holes or slits in the leather.

I think he has come along quit nicely. I really like the style that you have got going. The only thing that I can see is that the folds in the back of the knee look a little hi to me.
omg you're right..they are too high :p
Thanks for pointing that out! will fix :)

I think he looks too wooden. That is to say, his stance(while not rigged) is very unnatural. I think if you worked a bit on the balance and weight of the character, it would really pop.
