Alright, i need a new dvi cable and Radio Shack has a dual-DVI cable for $13 - I was wondering if I can just cut the prongs off of both ends that make a dual dvi a dual and run it as a non-dual cable from my quadro to monitor?

would such a thing work?

Will doing it kill either my video card or lcd?

thanks!

they should just have a normal dvi cable though...

What do you mean by "dual dvi" ?

Dude, just plug it in. Does a scart socket having all those unused pins cause it to not work?

by dual dvi I was referring to what the guy at Radio Shack said (which could easily be as wrong as right)

a DVI connector has 2 groupings of 9 prongs and a bar on one end.
a dual DVI has the same 2 groupings of 9 prongs and the bar but also has 2 added prongs above and below the bar

from what was explained: a dual dvi has 2 holes above and below the horizontal bar for audio and HDTV applications or something of the sort. My quadro has the output for the extra holes above and below the bar but my lcd doesn't... the question... could I just cut them off the end that goes into my monitor and have it work?

forgive my ignorance... I just don't want to fry anything!

All dvi ports should have exactly the same number of holes, regardless of whether or not they are used:

If your sockets look different, show us

yeah, that's what my quadro's ports look like but my LCD doesn't match... it doesn't have the + thing on the far right of the quadro's right port in the quadro image you posted.... it just has a horizontal bar running left to right...

What he is calling adual DVI is actualy DVI-I which includes analog and digital signals. The contacts described are the analog signal pins.
There are very vew devices that do not have the connectors for those (DVI-D), like your monitor. Removing the extra pins should work.
Some more info can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi#Specifications

I ran into your EXACT problem. I took a pair of pliers and unplugged those pins for the cable to work. (:

*sighs* I want to unplug my nose in the same manner to get rid of these allergies...

Now THAT was random.

Bottom -comedy series starring Rik Mayall and Ad Edmondson

Series 3 -More pungent episodes from two head-banging morons whose idea of a wild night is pulling nose hair out with a pair of pliers

Watch it if you can, out on DVD.....

alright, I had to pick up a 15 pin VGA cable because they were out of DVI. I now have it plugged in with a DVI - VGA adapter into my quadro and everything is a nasty yellow tint. Is the only way to get rid of this through the monitor's software or is there something else wierd going on when the signal gets converted?

thanks

VGA sucks. Wait for a DVI cable, digital signal means no casts.

... definitely picking up a DVI when they come in but working from my backup 15" lcd until then definitely sucks!

... is there nothing I can do in the meantime to get rid of the yellow cast?
