CGTalk - Budget system specs

Okay, I haven't built a system since PC133 was fast RAM and the pentium 3 was brand new. Things have changed a lot since and I'm a bit lost.

I'm considering buying the following parts, but want to make sure that the RAM, Processor and motherboard will work well together and I'm not spending way too much for anything.

excellent choice of components. consider also the option of dual processor, if you think it would help you. remember that the 333MHz FSB capabilities of the nforce2 don't get fully utilised unless you use a processor to match. i believe the first 333MHz FSB athlons are the 2600+ chips. double check to make sure.

a faster single processor would probably help your day to day work, and the faster bus will certinaly help bandwidth hungry applications like the entire adobe suite. a dual processor system comes into it's own when rendering, but will cost you more (obviously).

also, there was some weirdness a while back with the gainward cards you mentioned. read greg's post here:

i have a SUMA geforce4ti4200se with 128MB 3.3ns ram, which overclocks quite well. it actually comes factory clocked slightly higher than the official ti4200 nvidia specs.
