View Full Version : text sharpness problem
SegFaultII 05-01-2006, 03:29 PM hi there
i animated a simple line of vertical text that moves from the lower side to the upper side of the screen. while everything is fine and sharp in the ae preview window, its pixeled and ugly when i render it out. i use the default export settings.
how can i turn on sharp text display?

You might not want to use the default export setting. If your exporting to a quicktime format make sure you select the Sorenson 3 codec if its installed on your system. If your exporting to AVI format then make sure the quality is set to 100%.

no luck.
the quality is bad no matter what i choose in the export options...
i uploaded the file, here: [dead link][/url]
when i export to flash, the text is sharp but the effects are gone.
also its strange that this text is sharp: [dead link]
i dont know whats different in the 2 files, i exportet it with the defaut setting.
edit: i think its the comp setting
edit2: nope, no luck again
edit3: it is some kind of text option, i recreated the effect with the directional blur and the text is sharp now... gotta do the other files all over again :/
for comparison: [dead link][url="http://washy.geniorxt.de/stuff/aftereffects/test_060501_fixed.mov"] (http://washy.geniorxt.de/stuff/aftereffects/test_060501.mov)
edit4: i don't get it. i recreated the file from scratch and the pixelization is back.
i created a text layer, animated movement and the directional blur effect, added another layer underneath it for the other effect and exported.

For starters, I would turn your comp 10bit instead of 8bit, that banding on your background is really distracting. If that doesn't get rid of the banding, maybe even try blurring the greyscale parts to smooth them out.
As for the text problem, maybe the effect you are applying to that text layer is causing issues. Did you try applying the same effect to the "test" text on the right (in your 060501_fixed.mov version)? The color of the text on the left is clearly different than all other text elements, unless you did this on purpose it seems there is some odd doubling up effect going on.

FOUND IT!!! :buttrock:
its because of the image file. the background image is a jpg, nothing fancy just opened photoshop and threw some gradients together. the pixel resolution of the comp is 1,07 and the image is 1,0.
now i need to find out how to have the picture and the text in high quality together anyway. im going crazy.
edit: even importing photoshop files as text replacement doesn't work anymore! this can not be normal, why do i get this pixelization all over the place?? argh
