hey! i am new to 3d... and i have a problem lighting up black objects in 3dsmax... i looks soo flat.... theres no... volume... is there a tutoril on how to light black objects well? or can u guyz give me some pointers

Well, this is a simple one... :p
The human eye can't see the difference very well between dark tones, so u can make the black a very dark grey without the eye noticing it, but in max it'll make a huge difference on the lighted parts! ;)

Very few things in life are a solid 0,0,0 black.
Like the previous poster said, try expermienting by pulling the back into different colors.
Ivory black is RGB 41,36,33 and usually works really nicely or how about 55,55,55 which is a warm grey/ black whose name i don't know.
Actually the same thing is with white. Instead of using 255,255,255 try using antique white which is 250,235,215 or a color called azure, which is roughly 240,255,255.
All RGB values are aproximate of course. Just trying to head you in the right direction.
