how would i go about creating very good looking gold?
i am having some big troubles with it..
i am using max.. but if u know most terms work in all programs :)

Yeah, gold is a tricky one.
Last year we branded a TV show that had loads of gold in it, and I spent weeks getting the look of it right.
Basically, I ended up using ramps and things to get the look of it right in the end, along with faint bump maps to wiggle the reflections.
Start out by making a basic gold colour, and then add some ramps to it to make the colours go darker on the edges and stuff like that. Then give it some reflection, and make sure that the reflections are blurred. There is no sure-fire recipe for making it look real, so all I can suggest it to play around and see what you come up with.
Or perhaps a max user can post a preset :shrug:

but still lacks the ramps i am gonna work on thoese now!
