Cruiser3d 01-04-2003, 09:41 AM hi all
how can i interact thinking particles to softbody?
Thanks in advance

you mean with the dynamics modules softbodies? I would imagine the same way as with any other object, use a tpdeflector node with the softbody set as the object.
if you mean you want to create softbodies like maya has using thinking particles, then i have an example on the renderzone section of my website
http://www.peranders.com/c4d8/
scroll down the page and it's further down, it's a fairly complex network but i labled it up so you should be able to pull it apart without too much trouble. it works by you making a copy of the object you want to be a softbody, making that copy invisible, then distorting the original's shape by particles that follow the copys points (more or less exactly how maya does it). with experimentation you should be able to get many of the same effects maya has although it's likely to be very hard to keep volume correctly this way (i've not even attempted this as the calculations would cause xpresso to slow cinema to a crawl). anyhow, apart form that you can affect how "soft" the softbody is with a user parameter that i put in the example file... hope that any of this helps.

Any way to use a vertex map to restrict the deformations to a specific patch or vertex weight?:hmm:

the new ditools when they come out apparently wil have contorl over vertex maps so yes it will be possible (to read and write vertex map data)
till then you can use lights and the light node in thinking particles... check the manual on how to use this, but you will need to move it with the object, and of course the object may change as it mover through the light beam, but at least its a workaround.

yes, i mean with the dynamics modules. For example , sprayed particles with cloth interaction. Is it possible?

you mean shoot balls at a blanket type thing?
afaik no... but i might have a couple of workarounds
you might be able to use the tp softbody example in conjunctino with dynamics softbodies (i know it's over the top, but it might work) if you drive a duplicate of your cloth shape which isn't in the dynamics solver object, with thinking aprticles, you can create thinking particles particle-particle collisions. then at least you would get movement...
the other thing you can do although this is really time consuming is this...
in xpresso you can get each particles position, you could set certain particles positions and alignments to drive "real" non thinking particles objects solid bodies for instance in the solver object, that way you should be able to get the effect. this should work, but it's as you can imagine cumbersome and i think to make it work properly i think you would actually require seperate rigid body objects for each particle (rather than one rigid body that get's put in every particles position) otherwise because of the speed of the object flying between different particle positions you may get some very strange results... on the other hand i've not tried this out so it might work
anyhow hopw that this helps, the second one is more likely to work than the first one for what you want. good luck and show teh results :)

thank you very much for this tips.
i'll try.
Hi,
have a look here QT Movie (ca. 500K) (http://www.bonkers.de/download/soft05.mov)
for an example. This plays back in the editor of a PIII 800 with half the animation speed.

is it softbody dynamics?Looks like proximity displacement... :|
It's completely TP. I use TP Softbodys for the wall and simple particles as colliding objects.
