Well my pc video card is dead and I need to render in something that is mac-compatible.

What would you guys recommend? (XSI is not mac-compatible...)

Thanks!

Personally I model in Modo then take it over to Cinema 4D for animation and rendering. The next update (9.6) is going to really boost the speed for the Mac. You could also try Lightwave, but I prefer Cinema 4D because I find it easier to use and I like the render quality as well.

Thanks for the hint. I heard good things about Cinema 4d!

Could you point me to good sites to learn the basics of it? I was thinking about moving to Maya but everyone talking about Cinema 4d and the fact that it has many successfull stories behind it makes me hesitate. However I do not have much time to switch from one to the other and I already found good references for Maya (books).

I would start off with c4dcafe.com. This site has some great video tutorials on Cinema 4d that have helped out a lot of people. Another site I cannot imagine living without is 3dattack.net. This site puts out an excellent monthly magazine in pdf format that is not to be missed. I order mine every month. If you are looking for books I would recommend The Cinema 4D Artist's Project Source Book by Anne Powers. Even though it was written for versions 8-8.5 I have found it to be extremely helpful in learning this great program.
