Schkieward 04-30-2006, 05:06 PM Hey folks!
Is it possible to simulate like a magnifying glass with a good zoom, and how about somthing more complicated like a scope?
I had somthing like this in mind

Faking it with a camera is one way, but would be nice to render somthing atleast close to this.

I don't know much about the actual optics of a scope, but for a simple magnifying glass, sure, just increase the ior of a glass material and the image you're seeing through the glass will magnify.

Yeah thanks for the advice. Scope optics is quite complicated lots of lenses with different sizes, i'am quessing that even if you managed to do all the stuff correctly, the renderer still wouldn't be able to render it correct, just my speculation.
I will be experimenting with the IOR now.

There are systems capable of calculating the actual optical output, you can see such as system at www.optis-world.com. The product is called Speos. We have the software package, which is used to calculate the optical properties of automotive glass, projection televisions, LED's, thin film coatings, etc.
