View Full Version : cobble dilema
Hi
I'm modelling a street scene with a cobbled road that disappears into
the distance. I made some cobbles from primitives and then made many instances to cover the road.
When rendering to800x600 I get the out of memory message.
Is there a better way to create the cobbles to keep the file size down as its a large area to cover.
Cheers for any help

I'd imagine that a texture would be more efficient than modeling each stone.

there was a thread in the C4D section linking to another one somewhere on cgtalk that had a cobble stone floor or something like that, it was ages ago but maybe this will remind someone who knows more about that thread or you could try doing a search

is this the kind of effect you want?, I did this pretty quickly using one the simbiont shaders in the displacement channel
simbiont shaders (http://www.darksim.com/html/download_simbiont2.html)
Thats pretty much what I'm after. I have downloaded the shaders from your link so its time to have a play. Which shader did you use to get that effect and what kind of setting did you use in displacement channel if you don't mind me asking.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my queries.
Cheers

I used the one called cobblestone in the displacement channel with default settings (5m is it?) and then 75%, i applied the texture to a 500x500 plane and hit render, it could probably be used ok in the bump channel though with the same results

g0tenks0,
You can do the exact same thing with the SLA shaders!
