I started this for the dsg but have been really busy on a consulting contract - not much time for anything :sad:
So here it is so far (approx 2.5 hrs)

i know this just the beginning of the piece but i really like that eye. i'll be keeping an eye on the progress!

Wow, you've only just begun and I can already see the resemblence is strong! Great start :D

Well it's looking good feature wise, but I think either the eye is too big or the nose too small. Kind of hard to tell like this. Very neat shading though. I wouldn't even dare a reproduction of that sculpture, it's haunted me ever since childhood :p.

lol, You better watch for art critics. They tend to get upsett if they hear both david and michaelangelo in one sentence. They might go for bodily harm. :)

I didn't have much time tonight, I just tried to visualise the surface with cross-contours, on a separate layer

Really cool. Is it just me or is the mouth area a little too small?
Anyway, i can see this is gonna look awesome in the end.
