View Full Version : Still : Adrift (large)
Per-Anders 01-04-2003, 01:43 AM I moved this in here (killed the other thread in the gallery), seeing as i was making ammends every time anyone suggested anything so that says to me it's still a WIP.
Anyhow comments crits welcome... as i'm reasonably certain to take on board whatever is said ;)
i should say that by now totaly loave 99.99% of this image and find everything about it unsatisfactory, this is a raw render, no photoshop/post work... the very next thing i'l be doing is dumping the particle fog, the dof and changeing the orientation of the boat a little bit more as its just a horrible position as far as i can see... but these renders take a rather long 45 minutes on my dual 867 g4. it's all cinema 4d and procedural textures (no photographs) btw.

thanks... ok i did some of those ammends, now i find i've stil got some particle system spewing out great biig spheres :/ gotta remove that next... i may go back to the original boat position after this and try to smooth out the sea a bit around the boat instead, the boat positoin just doesn't seem to work for me at the moment... even after i've tweaked it...
any thoughts peeps?

fix the particles of water "spewing" as you said
the volume lighting coming off the lantern looks a bit odd to me - maybe it needs the fade or attenuation tweaked
also, not quite sure is going on inside the boat - texture looks weird - but it simply could be the angle im looking at it.
otherwise - this is excellent, has a great "feel" to it. did you make this water from scratch, or use a plugin? cause it EXCELLENT
can wait to see it tweaked

I like the lighting. My only CC is that the water looks a bit too hard and sharp, water is smoother than that. Work and that and it'll be a really good piece :)

hi, yes the water is sharper here, but i'm trying to add drama into the scene so i don't want things too sharp, also i wanted it to be a little painterly rather than photorealistic. the water is done without plugs, just basic procedural textures, same as the sky.
here's the image as it was when i removed it from the gallery (so the prior version to the one that i started this thread with) and you can see what's changed... however i feel i'm beginning to just go back to where it was then and leaving it as that... the lack of rocking in the boat doesn't bother me that much it was just what people said and i don't want to flatten out the waves that much as i find the overall shape to be fairly satisfactory (although i do agree the bump on the above was a bit extreme).
