"DR WHO"
These are the rules:
* You have 25, (count them 25!) minutes to do your sketch. IF you go beyond the
assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has
expired, along with the FINAL drawing.
* Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW.
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

-Roberto

I made a search for doctor who and got this picture:
http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/doctor/bloat1.jpg

I know it has nothing to do with the series but it inspired to paint a monstertexture. Since I have no ideaif there was creatures like this in doctor who, I just post it anyways :D

First one, 35 minutes, second with an extra hour. Shouldnt take that long :/

Awesome image Alice! I have heard of Dr Who before but what came to mind was something along the lines of James movies I wasnt too sure. This was 20mins in PS7. So glad the weekend is here! :) I really like this group !

I have been reading the tuts, and will re read, but about size ---I start with 800 x 600 as ROrtiz states in the challenges, but Im getting so lost. My question is should I start smaller(document size), or just stay within the challenge size guidelines and shrink the image?

I know the whole process willl take time to learn like anything else, but I need a more solid foundation to start with. Thanks for your help! :)

hi Pamyla,

Your pic definitely has that who-ish quality to it :) And Alice, Very nice texture there, wow.

To chime in on your question, I almost always start with an insanely large canvas, though with sketches it's usually somewhat reasonable (1200x900 seems to be a favourite these days). That way you get the best of both worlds: pack in all the detail you want, or use a really big brush and cover everything quickly.

Then when you're done you can shrink to whatever size seems best, within guidelines.

Seriously though, havnt been in the sketchgroups for quite some time since I started at RM in Gothenburg (studying Marketing and advertisement) and when I do have some time over, I spend it infront of the computer instead of watching the telly :)

Awesome work FridayEve, I always think of Tom Baker as Dr Who... too.

I've just gotten a 21" Wacom Cintiq, I might give this one a go myself if I get some free time later.

Friday, I also read 35 minutes first... /me gives roberto a weird look...
He must have changed it!
Great work as always, love how you handle colour and nice to see that your changing from the colour palette you used before. (During the avatarwars, felt like you used the same kind of colors all the time then, but not anymore :) )

Shame he only lasted a season.

Awsome topic.

I have become obsessed with this show. I dont know what it is but Christopher Eccleston "the doctor" just wont let me take my eyes off it. Its no wonder it became a hit in england.

Good luck all.

klau: What do you mean it only lasted one season? I'm american and so am still watching the series. Are they making a second season or no?

GuyIncognito

Sorry to jump in... but yeah, Kyle, Eccleston only made one series as The Doctor (13 Episodes in all, plus a christmas special). He quit after the very first episode screened in England.

I've been a fan of the series for as long as I can remember watching it (since probably the late seventies when I was 5 or so)... and I thought the Eccleston series was the best yet.

If I saw him in the street I'd give him a ruddy good kick in the bottom for quitting so soon! ;-)

Glad you have enjoyed the series.

By the way... I LOVE the portraits, Klau and Friday Eve!

VERY nice work there darksuit!

EDIT: Sorry but I moved my image. I didn't like the 25 minute version and wanted to keep working on it... so I moved to the 2D gallery once it was done.

It's here if you care to want to see it.

THanks, i was trying ot catch the upbeat and whimzicalness of Peter Davidison's Doctor.
The Cybermen is pretty spiff, but i am in awe of Fridayeve's Tom Baker Doctor.

Speaking of Cybermen... RISE OF THE CYBERMEN Premires Saturday 13 May in the UK which means that an enterprising indivdual might find a way to bit torrent the episode.. Not that i would ever condone such a practice.

The both the Eccelecsons are pretty spiff too. Though at this point I about to see about doing more of the doctors, (minus Colin =P ) Did you see that Sarah Jane and K-9 make an appearence in season 2... w00t heard it was a good appearence too.
(Geek aleart)
Not like when she appeared in the 10 minute short in 1993.

Kinda wondering if The Master (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_%28Doctor_Who%29) will make an appearence.

GuyIncognito
05-02-2006, 08:14 AM
Yeah Darksuit -- all through Ecclestons series I was hoping to see the Master again (and the Matrix... yeah the ORIGINAL Matrix. Maybe this time it will be more than some squiggly lines ;-)).

I was thinking it would be good if they had a quirky Master. Rowan Atkinson would be good. And funny enough I was looking through Wikipedia's page on Dr Who and it shows there was a spoof when Atkinson actually played the Doctor. Love to see that.

Can't wait to see the new design Cybermen in action. It took me about 5 minutes to warm up to flying Daleks -- then totally fell for the idea...

EL-E-VATE!!!

LOL!!! That was classic.
