Hi Guys,

I'm wondering what the best workflow is for importing EPS files from illustrator CS ?

At the moment I convert the file to outlines and save as .ai file.... then import the file into Maya... it comes in but just seems so jaggy?

Is there a good way of doing this....?

I will need to bevel plus this with a subtle bevel for a simple animation I have to do.

Thanks in advance. Garry

Hi Garry..

usually when i work with vector stuff coming from illustrator that turns out jaggy in maya i make sure to either:

1.make sure my nurbs-tesselation is actually high enough..sometimes the curve from illustrator is just fine but the nurbs are too low-res..

2.if the imported illustrator curve is too low-res you can try to rebuild it .. this usually
isnt a great solution as the rebuild operation will re-parameterize and mess with your curve leaving it never the same as the original..

3.in illustrator, try adding more anchor points to your curve. it's somthing like
edit>path>add points ..i think. beware not to add to many or your imported curve will be cluttered with cv's.. on the other hand, i think its easier to have to many and rebuild the curve by reduce..i think this will maintain the shape..

(4.) if your bevel+ turns out "reversed" or inside out, just reverse the curve direction of your imported illustrtor curve.

i know alias have improved the workflow on working with eps-files and you should be able to read up on that somewhere in the docs..i know i've seen a tutorial on it somewhere though..hmm..wait, got it.. digital-tutors have a free videocast showing some tricks with a car logo.. http://www.digitaltutors.com or do a search in iTunes..

anyway, the above steps have proved trusty to me so far.

Thanks Samel,

I'll give that a try in the morning.

just save as illustrator 10, or 9, or 8, not CS or CS2
that works perfectly for me.
