Title: Camera Flash
Name: Jamie Cardoso
Country: United Kingdom
Software: 3ds max, mental ray
Hello everybody
This 3d image was created with the purpose to emulating a professional camera taking a picture of a completely dark room with "flash exposure".
I thought it was worth demonstrating to 3Ds max/mental ray users as it's the current trend of the industry and a number of 3Ds max users seem to think
that it's only achievable with help a rendering plug in called "Maxwell".
My software of choice was 3Ds max & Mental Ray
Any comments are welcome
Kind regards
Jamie

very close, but you are missing a couple things. The fg would be extremly blown out and the light would fade off to almost black in the bg. Here is a little PS job I did to show you what I mean:

I did a sloppy job, but you get the idea. Great scene and texturing! Keep up the good work.

a flash is just another lightsource and doesnt necessarily have to be on the camera. flash exposure just means an exposure with a certain type of light that goes on and off really fast. most people assume that flash means overblown flat pictures (how do you think photo studios do it?) anyways, just a thought thats been bugging me.
great scene, looks pretty real, but as mentioned before, the objects closer to the camera should be blown out more. the couches look amazing.
there seems to be some weird color splotches on the footrest/cushion and i dunno if thats intentional or from bad compression. pro cameras usually dont do that :)
keep it up!

Outstanding work! I learned this technique when using Maxwell Render, but not Mental Ray or any other rendering system. How did you produce this effect with Mental Ray? Is there any possible way to do it with VRay? Great job on the texturing and realistic modeling. The only way I can tell that it's CG is the light colored chair next to the window and the statue. Keep up the great work :D

It looks so dull, colorless, boring... which means, it's photolike. :) All 3D renders are too clean. But this looks awesome. Not 100% perfect but it is close to real!
But i have to say, i have seen better results with Maxwell - that doesn't mean Maxwell is better. Just that the artist did better.
