im having a problem with my backscatter map. if i turn off the epidermis, subdermis and spec map, theoretically i should have a red tint behind the ears of my character. but i get an all black render. does anyone know whats going on? do i need a specific lighting set up? can anyone point me in the direction of some tutorials for this? thanks a lot

the mi_sss shaders are scale-sensitive. assuming you have set everything up correctly (mr texture write node, lightmap, light linking if necessary), chances are your scale is off, and you're getting a little bit of scatter, but the radius is too small on your model. there are several articles and tutorials on the subject, such as the SSS tut on www.lamrug.org, several here on cgtalk, and the miSSS tests topic which is usually located at the top of this forum.
