View Full Version : Character: Klayman
phishmann 01-03-2003, 05:57 PM hey everybody this is my first character that ive been working on. Its not exactly my character, hes from the game The Neverhood, if any of you are familiar with it. ive gotten this far but ive been having a little trouble with the arms. If you have any advice that you can give me to go about making the arms it would be really helpful.

Good start but the mouth is too small and the eyes too big, also in the reference pic the legs don't seem to be the same size yours are. Keep it up:p

are the legs too long on mine or too short? The reference pic i posted isnt too good of quality, so i guess you cant see the eyes to well. they actually are pretty large, but i do agree with you on the mouth area.

As you say the ref pic quality is low but it looks as if the legs are lumpy, your proportions are fine.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to model the arms?

being the n00b i am, id prolly take a stab at making a cylinder or tube and try and mess with the vertexes to try and get the desired look

im a noob also thats why im asking for help. The only problem i think that i would encounter using a cylinder is the finger and palm area. im also using nurbs. I tried using a sphere but i didnt know if i should merge the arms to the upper torso or not. If it is better to do that then how should i do it. I dont know to many modeling techniques so i would like some tips.
thanks:bounce:

the neverhood rules!!! I dont know anything about nurbs, sorry. a box would be easy to use for the arms. I also made a 3d klaymen. Btw his name is "Klaymen" just to get it accurate :P

Lol cool. The arms could be simple extrudes with a smooth I guess.

As for comments, it seems his feet are a little wrong, they should be a little pointed, and the head is a little fat. The eyes could use a little work too, make em a bit more defined.

thats pretty cool man. I didnt really have to many "good" reference pics to go from but i see how the feet are more pointed. I know ive asked this to much, but, how did you start the arms?::hmm:

Extruding is the way to go as you won't get joints showing up, what app are you using can we see a wireframe?

alright i took a shot at the arms. This is my first try at subdiv modelling so it may not look great but theres still some tweaking to do. I think i have the basic shape of it down though.
