Wow! Just looked at the gallery. Great results like with terragen

Doesn't look as good as World Machine

I'd say they are similar. Different method/implementation then world-machine though.
Nice export abilities:
Layer sets and terrains can be exported as
r32 (the Worldmachine standard format)
16 bit raw (for applications like Carrara or Photoshop)
ter (the wellknown Terragen format, also the Dreamscape Plugin for 3DSmax use it))
PGM (the mostly unknown Bryce import format for high resolution terrains in 16bit quality)
TGA (the mostly unknown import format for Vue, for 16 bit high resolution terrains)
bmp (8bit greyscale, a standard format)
obj (real geometry for Maya, 3DSmax, Cinema and other 3D software without terrain primitive)
normal map (for geometrie export in conjunction with the obj format). This enables the use of low geometrie with maximum of details.

world machine doesn't look that great either.

these terrain generators all look the same to me - super grainy results, or oversaturated/sharpened.
Wait till Terragen 2 is out, but don't they all use the same math formula to generate the terrain? If so, then they all gonna look pretty much the same. The only thing that will differentiate them is how easy it is for the user to modify the terrain. Vue has brush with several different errosion effects if I'm not mistaken.

Definately looking forward to Terragen 2! These look ok though I suppose ;)

Grainy? um. ok. Its obvious you've never used them or don't know how too. Show me some examples you've made with either that look grainy please?

Maybe I have missed something ...
All the gallerys appear to be pics done in VUE and BRYCE and TERRAGEN.

Yeah I see what you mean with the grain.. one of the gallery shots even has water with visable seams running across it. Does it take much skill to produce these images? Still nice to look at and the price is right!

That web-site is terrible (design-wise). Not impressed with the program either.

lol yeah but all of the terrain generators website are butt ugly :) But isn't terragen free? Then why would you pay for something like this

lol yeah but all of the terrain generators website are butt ugly :) But isn't terragen free? Then why would you pay for something like this :shrug:Because Terragen in its current incarnation is not as powerful (controllable) at shaping geometry - it is an excellent renderer though! GeoControl and WorldMachine work only on the geometry. They offer more scope for creativity as you are more able to 'design' your terrain than if you were working in Terragen alone. To render an image you need to export the geometry out to apps like Terragen etc.
Though I haven't used it, GeoControl does look to be different to what's out there already - hopefully meaning that it'll be able to create stuff that's not been seen before. It's also supposed to be simpler to use than WM which is based on nodes which some find intimidating. If this is all about making the process easier to create more realistic / unique works, even at the expence of seeing floods of mediocre and sub-par tosh cropping up all over the place, then I'm all for it... but critics of these sorts of programs will always put them down and be negative because of this it seems (that's a general comment - not necessarily directed at you :)).

This is purely a terrain generator and doesn't do renders. Terragen does renders.
There are a few features about it I like and the workflow seems very powerful.
Something different for those that use these sorts of things :)

as far as I know it's a generator, not a renderer.
results will vary with what you use for rendering.

does that include the one from Carrara 5?
