View Full Version : texture programs
WarpedMinds 01-03-2003, 03:18 PM Hi, I'm very thankful for all the responces previous posts have gotten me, and once again need some help in my journey to master cinema.
I remember seeing a post before, but can't find it after searching, about a program that exports a model and makes it a flat texture, so you can paint on it. I think it was called UVwrapper, can any one link me to a download or send me this program, or any (more preferable in your opinion) simliar programs ?
thanks in advance :)

C4D does it's own mapping, doesn't it? ... or is it just cause I have bodypaint integrated?

I tend to use Lithunwrap. You can get it from :
http://models.firearmsmod.com/tutorials/files/modelling/lithunwrap.zip
i have used uvmapper and lithunwrap, and i gotta say uvmapper does a better job. why? because it unwraps better the back of the models. if you have a good edgelooped model, itll be piece of cake to unwrap in uvmapper. lithunwrap its great tool, but sometimes some polys in the back of the models just dont split acuratelly.
and bodypaint is great , but c4dīs mapping tools are just weird for me.
Whatīs weird? Care to explain? If you have Bodypaint there would be no reason at all for using another app for unwrapping - BP gives you total control over the process. Compared, the other apps mentioned are very limited. BP plus Photoshop are unbeatable for texturing.

uvmapper is free, I don't know how BP work but it's really far to be free............
It was a response to Jebs post. Anyway - the question is about "texture programs" - not "free texture programs", so I donīt really understand your remark. Iīve tried uvMapper for a period and it does the (unwrapping - and nothing else - ) job. And ofcourse BP isnīt free - itīs a very powerful tool if you take the time to learn it (do u hear me, Jeb?)

For the painting bit I use the gimp, either in windows or linux.
www.gimp.org for the *nix one,www.wingimp.org for the win32 port.
I actually prefer it to Photoshop, prolly because I've only used gimp for the last 2-3 years :)
So just export the uvmap from uvmapper or whatever,
open it up in the gimp, and just throw in a new layer and paint yer map.

What you posted there is an UV map,
it's just not a very good one :)
I'm brand spanking new to uvmapper as I've mostly used lithunwrap before,
so I can't be much help when it comes to nice unwrapping,
but I found these tutorials :
http://www.uvmapper.com/tutorials.html
You can probably Google yourself some more later.
Good luck :)
