I finally finished my bone daddy and put him in a pose. Hope you like it. It's my second work in Maya and the first with rigging and skinning. But that part went not that well. It's just enough for some poses.

C&c are most welcome.

cheers

Dood, Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorite movies, and you have captured Bone Daddy perfectly. Awesome job. I love the texturing on the hands, and the mouth is perfect.
Plus, really nice atmosphere as well.

5 stars!

Ooooohhhh! I like! In many ways, better than the original plasticine except some texture stretching around the shoulders

The armas and legs are a bit larger.

NICE! Well done.

I also agree about the hand and shoulder textures. You didn't quite nail the head. The eyes (well, sockets) could be a tad bigger, and the brow a little more pronounced. Curve the grin a bit more(?).

That first link in Alevice's post will be helpful. You're just about there!!

Good start,
He's looking scary!!!
Only comments are that the left elbow is too low, the textures are stretched and the background is too intense and washed out.
Fix those if you want and repost!

peace and good luck,
Kane

I think the left arm issue is just from prespective forshortening, a different angle would easily sort this. As for the head, what's wrong with it?

Hey thanks guys for the comments.
It's a final, so I won't change things in the near future. I had to stop messing around with him at some point and go on. The mapping was really painful. If anyone knows a way to seamless uv-map a whole body (especially with lines coming up the arms and continuing on the body) please post it. Those distortions are because of some unclean geometry in the base mesh, next time I'll stick more to 4 sided polys.
About proportions, well the plasticines in the movie really change a lot, so you'll find heads in various forms. They exaggerated the movement of his "jaw" a lot, so the whole head deforms.
The rest may look strange due to the perspective, it's extreme - his right hand nearly touches the lens.

Here are some wires, get a better look.

Did you test 3dpaint tool. There is an options as clone and smear. try them. Can be useful.

the wires look great! yeah, i wouldn't futz with jack's head - it's dead on in orthographic.

you might try tweaking the camera so it doesn't squish as much (might correct the wrist as well).

:buttrock: DAMN nice model :buttrock:

this is a nice model indeed my friend of my all time favorite character. The clothes and hands are execptionaly good. But i do have a problem with the eyes, they need to be slighty more rounded, they look to harsh, i know that his eyes change through out the movie. They just need to be a little softer. Great work my friend.:buttrock: :buttrock:

It isnīt exactly as the movieīs jack (hmm..his name is jack?) and you have some problems with the UV mapping. But, it is a nice picture. ;)

I've been looking for a model of good old Jack. I was wondering if I could use it? I'm not that good at character modeling and I had this project I was working on that involved Jack. Please let me know if I can use your work.

Thanks for the comments guys.

therickoning: Send me a private message, describing a little bit closer what you want to do and what for, then I'll think about it.

Well, since you mentioned you're not going to be messing with him in the near future, this is probably irrelevant, but two of the little quirks about Jacks' head are that it's slightly pointed toward the top, and that his nostris are not symetrical - I believe the left one is actually longer and thinner than the right. Little things, but they help give him a more Burton-esque feel.
Oh, and I sent you a mssg about possibly using him for some private experiments as well...but my browser is kinda wonky, so I'm not sure if it went through...

OO, i love that character =), I've also tryed to model tha character before =). Anyway, how did you do the background?
Is it done in a painting program or maya?

Good work =)

colt
02-02-2003, 09:25 PM
Thanks again.

Well the background is some part of a NBC poster painted over and enhanced.

LordEzzat

Don't know what you mean. Those fingerjoints are modelled and the black lines are only in the color channel of the texture. No bumps there. The "real" Jack has it the same way. At least the puppet standing on my desk.
