Using max.

Max's dof (multipass) looks OK, but is soo slow (multiple renders needed)

Also tried Brazil's dof, was also very slow (don't know about vray or fr though)

Isn't there any fast & good dof filter/plugin out there ?
Something like the dof - effect or videopost, but then good quality offcourse.
It can't be that hard ...

Thx

Just do it in post(compositor), with the z channel.

Is aftereffects (standard, no plugs) anygood for this kinda thing?
and/or photoshop? (maybe if I use the Z depthmap thingy and use it as a selection and aply a blur to that selection, no?)

U mean the standard videopost filter that ships with MAX ? It's crap. :thumbsdow

I meant in an app like afterfx. Don't know how to do it in afterfx though. I use shake here.

In the "Render elements" section in the render dialogue box, choose Z-buffer as a extra output. Then you can use this image to blur the depth in your favorite post-program.

Or try X-DOF. I have very good experience with it...
