CGTalk - Strange light effect

Please,someone look at the file room.jpg.I reach these

result only with visible light on(the cone light).If i turn it to

off, the wall of the room looks flat,with no diffuse

effect.Why?

Is the wall completely black? I could be wrong here - but if you have a black colour with no specular then you will get no reflected light - the black absorbs all of it.
