This is my first real computer graphic that I've done, aside from doodling and fiddling in paint and corel (photopaint and draw)...;) It had purpose and such, I meant it to be something like this.
I love the ocean so I do lots of ocean scenes in my painting and drawing, and I love impressionist art; I love fiddling around with computer graphics programs and such so I decided to try a sort of impressionist-ic ocean scene...not really supposed to look real or anything, just get the point across. I made it in PhotoPaint (which has screwed up on my computer...much thanks to Tim for fixing my pic :) and hosting it!), with the Impressionist tool, except for the birds. Those were with the Pointalism tool.
Please leave suggestions as to how I can improve, what needs work, what u think. :) Thankz.
Thanks again to Tim!

There is not a focal point, it is a bit bright.

So you use Photopiant like me! Heh it is good to see someone else that uses that beautiful tool. Why did screwed yer comp.

I'm not big on impressionist works but I'll give it a shot. Even for impressionist its a bit vague with no focal point and nothing to cast shadows for contrast.

im·pres·sion·ism a theory or practice in painting especially among French painters of about 1870 of depicting the natural appearances of objects by means of dabs or strokes of primary unmixed colors in order to simulate actual reflected lightI think for this to actually qualify as an impressionistic piece you'd have to refine it even more. Right now it's very abstract or nothing more than a color study.

I mean, there isn't much here to discern the image from a beach scene or a mountain scene. The forms are very vague which only define 3 separations of color on the page (I'm assuming that they are ocean, beach, sky). You could easily say that the image is a division of lake, trees and sky. Or oasis, desert and sky. The sky is only definate because you have birds there.

I have to disagree with the comments about a focal point though. My focus was immediately drawn to the birds. So, there is a focal point ... it's just not that interesting.

My brutally honest opinion is that this reminds me of a sympathy card. All it needs is the heartfelt text running down the right side to complete the image. I suppose that's a good thing if your job is designing sympathy cards. But if you're intent on creating the impressionistic painting that you describe ... I'd say keep working on it and define more forms with light and shadows.

And ... welcome to CGTalk! I hope you keep posting and don't take my critique to harshly. We're all learning here. :wip:
