wow really amazing. The only crit I have is that I find the horses expression not very atractive. Mostly it seems that the eyes and hair a maybe a little to extreme but this is ofcourse just my personal taste. All in all this is nothing short of amazing. I smell a front page

Wow amazing! At first I thought it was a 2d drawing. My crit is that it would be cool to have some cool lights to highlight the main subject and add some varience to the lighting.
Here is what I was thinking of:

Keep it up! I love it!

Very Nice.
The Horse looks very nice, but the bump looks a little bit too hard on the horse. Everything else is excellent man. I really can't say anything else.

hi:)
very nice composition. I agree about horse face.
Baldasseroni
04-26-2006, 07:41 AM
Thanks for the appreciation !
Adam : yes, i agree in part...the horse`s expression has been volountarely extremized. The idea is that he`s head is being pulled fastly so he was not that prepared...eyes wide shout and flying hairs, but maybe it could have been realized better.
B3AND1P : Thanks , that`s interesting at first sight ... too bad the picture is a little small to understand well the subtle changings you did.
Lamster : Right...could not implement fur on the horse because in this specific case...so i tryed a cheaper bump solution :/
dorvanium, Intervain, Andre: Thanks guys!
giraffe3d : Thank you madam...i agree about the horse as i wrote some lines above ;)
Here`s an ambient occlusion pass and wireframe :

Baldasseroni (member.php?u=7988): I mainly just cooled up the highlights and the shadows to give a little more contrast to your colors and more depth. I will upload a full res version if you want, but I think you understand my crit.
Now that I see the AO pass I can really see how much detail you have put into everything. You have done an amazing modeling job, good for you!
You rock, keep it up.

I meant that horse face can be more extremised even more and more dramatic.

Saw this one back on massive black's insone portfolio.. just love it :)
Some little things bugs me with the horse pose and textures, a little too "standard" and off.. maybe the way the neck is attached to the rest of the body?
anyway, .. really nothing to say , excellent work as always, keep it up!

And I agree with giraffe3d The horse expresion can be extremised more like he see a snake

You're getting better and better by the day, stop it! :D Excellent as usual! 5 *
wow, awesome! perfect!
I have just one critique, a simple detail that calls me attention especially on the a.occlusion pass image. The cowboy´s right foot is "entering" in the "pedal" mesh.
Is just a little detail.
Anyway, the best western picture I´ve seen. congratulations!

No crit on this end... and from someone who's wife has two horses, I think the expression looks just fine. Heck, I've seen them get a little wild eyed when I back them down for being grabby at feeding time! Five stars! And I don't give those out often!

Neat comp, but your saddle is much too big, and the cowboy is set far too back on the body of the horse...
also, there's something wrong with the horse's lower front legs, just under the front knees, on both legs, I think. There probably shouldn't be any chisling on the hooves either. One last thing - there should be no space at all between the girth and the belly of the horse - the saddle will slide right off and take the cowboy with it..
One other thing, the horses' ears look kind of goofy and floppy - they should probably be straight back and folded against the head. The double reins coming from the cowboy hand - I see one where it comes around the neck, but where does the other go? the single rein, above the double reins, look like its going directly into the horses' head and doesn't line up with the bit.
speaking as one who rides horses.

Gr8 work
At first I thought it was digital painting. Very good compositing. I agree with the comments on lighting. Its a gr8 image anyway. Thou there is always room for improvement.
Again nice work and it does deserve the front page.

wow, man, impressive!
i really like the lightening and the magenta tones! well, what else can i say, i don't thinkm that the expression of the horse seems to be a problem! the situation is so expressive that you surely can exaggerate the mimic! that's arty freedom!
quite the contrary! i would exaggerate the facial expression of the rider! i believe he would look more evil if you'd darken the area aourung his eyes. but nothing elso to be improved!
five stars!!

wow..
I like such Picture very much.
Good job Alessandro! Saw that one too on CA massiveBlack'sMassiveUpload! You can be proud to work for those freaks!
Couple of minor details could be pointed out, but pay no attention; it's good!
Take care
That untextured shot is kind-of (ok REALLY) washed out,
can we see a shot with maybe just stock lighting or something?
Or even just a screenshot would be cool!
Would like to see that geometry.

04-27-2006, 09:30 AM
Great artwork indeed!
However I think some more pronounced parts could sell it even more. Im mainly talking about lighting setup (more contrasty, for ie a darken foreground figure would improve 3dimensionality), also the shader for horse skin is not the best (I can imagine the shiny sweated body of the horse with all those nicely modeled muscles you got there).
Also the villain in foreground is too similar looking (I know about time saving using almost same model but different texture would definitely make big difference)
Anyway top notch work.

Thank you all so much for the front page and the appreciation, i hope to provide more artworks in the future...even critiques has been really costructive and helped me, really.
I updated the picture...some colour adjustments to improve the mood and put the high resolution picture (http://www.eklettica.com/prints/colton_battle.jpg)...
B3AND1P (member.php?u=50032) : thanks mate...i think that you had a good point, i updated the picture accordind to your colour adjustments.

rawwad (member.php?u=132855),CGadrian (member.php?u=143806),Eclectic (member.php?u=56556) much appreciated guys :)
pascal_blanche (member.php?u=59) :Thanks Pascal, i`m glad you appreciate :) ... the horse neck and anatomy has been deformed more or less to stick the pose of a given concept...even his hair colour had a change in production...you know...marketing decisions...i`m not really into this animal anatomy so i`m sure it has a lot of flaws but i hope that the overall pose works eheh
Rofideo (member.php?u=204015) : eheh ok ...i tried to extremize it a bit but did not want the animal to catch that much attention
ThirdEye (member.php?u=6369) Grazie Alberto, sempre gentile :)
gusss (member.php?u=126536) : ...Oh man...let it pass, come on ;)

Ali3dartman (member.php?u=126390),B3liar (member.php?u=188082) Thank you very much!
kwills2567 : (member.php?u=214846) I trust you...as i said i`m not much confident with these animal anatomies and i did not have much time for research... so i`m sure i made all the mistakes you listed ... on the other side i think that the overall works at least from an artistic point of view, thank you for the suggestions anyhow, hopefully they will be useful for future works.

Tad (member.php?u=698) i`m not sure about what you are asking for...i uploaded a wireframe, do u want to see a closer one ? i`m not sure i can take it and upload soon though :/
D-E-A-N (member.php?u=111032) : Thanks Dean...and yes, it`s always the same character in different pose and scenary.
Designer (member.php?u=5197) : Thanks dood...finally someone who appreciates not hysteric horses :D (just kidding)
Rikkardo (member.php?u=6742) : sup g
Lady Purple (member.php?u=189180) grazie ^^
Libor (member.php?u=1397) : Well Libor, you are probably right...i made a colour correction as suggested, but i`m not too much sure about exasperating the shaders, i think that the more you go into photorealism and detail and the more the eye tends to catch flaws and loose the overall mood and focus on the subject.it`s often wise in my opinion to get a decent chompromise between realism and stylization in these kind of illustrations.
The villain in foreground is the same model...with some different clothes and accessories...sorry, deadlines were tight ;)
Slurry (member.php?u=15153) thanks man :)

Awsome piece!! I really love the whole scene/layout and concept.
My only issues are again on the horse anatomy...in particular the ears, they are much too floppy (like a rabbit) and that is something many people can pick up on. As far as the girth and the front legs, those are things you can definitely get away with!
Good work!

Impressive but I have a few questions. Why is the gun (bottom right corner) so low poly and the textures look like they are ingame textures. Also the "mountains" (upper left corner) don't fit into the picture. Every western movie I've seen had the towns in the open and not anywhere near the "mountains".

amazing work!! I very rarely come to see 3d-works but this is really stunning! Great angle, movement and colours!
As much I wouldn't want to point out any details and nag, but..... you might shoot me for saying this, but the horses ears are quite funny :D Also the knees of its frontlegs seem a bit weak, but it doesn't bother though. These are unimportant things, this is definately a true masterpice of action and excellent artistic skill
