View Full Version : normal mapping in zbrush and then importing in to maya HELP
Leonard86 04-24-2006, 08:16 PM I was wondering if someone could help me with normal mapping in zbrush and then importing it in to Maya? Also when I draw in zbrush and for example drag the brush across the model it leaves spots it does not make a nice line. PLEASE HELP!! It would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, for the unclean lines increase your mouse average 100%, and dont stroke to quickly.
For Normals

or just search normal at ZbrushCentral

The best result I have got for normal maps have been using this workflow....
1. Lay out model UVs in 0-1 space
2. Import as an OBJ into Zbrush
3. Scuplt away like a maniac
4. Drop down to the lowest subdivision level and open Zmapper
5. Use one of the surface sampler presets from Zbrushcentral and generate a Tangent space map
6. Use the JS_Normaliser in Maya to render with Mental Ray
Dont use the bump node in Maya and change to tangent space. I have never een able able to get good results from it
Try doing a search for normal maps in the Game Art forum
