We are finally working on some projects large enough to make it worthwhile to use our renderfarm, but those computers don't have all the fonts we use.

I don't know exactly how the copyrights work with fonts.

Collecting that much data is just rediculous if you ask me. All the data is accessible from any of our machines, so we don't need to collect. I don't know if it transfers fonts in there too. All I have it collect is the project. AE tries opening the file, but errors out because it is missing the font.

I'm just wondering if there is a good way to get this done. We don't always have 3 hours of time to just sit around and wait for a render to finish.

Any advice on getting all of our fonts copied to those machines? or is that even legal?
i believe the fonts we purchased, we purchased under a site license type of agreement, but am not sure.

I think most TrueType fonts have an "Embed" license, which means you can embed them in documents to be shared. The other main types of licenses either explicitly do not allow this, or only allow restricted use - for example, the "preview only" license allows you to open the document using the embedded font on other machines, but you cannot SAVE the document on that machine (i.e. make changes and save them).

I would say you are probably safe, especially if the fonts are all truetype. If not truetype, you may want to find out where you purchased them and consult their website for licensing info.

If it were me, I would load the fonts on all render boxes and not worry about it, since you are not using those machines for content creation. Of course, legal experts may disagree ;)

ok, well, know the easiest way to do that? It seems fairly time consuming
