Hello there everyone!

This is my first post in this great forum.

Ive made this soft little room for those times we actually sleep... :)
Made in 3dsmax and Finalrender.
Some artifacts still show up, but time and Ram were short.

Please critic as you like.

Anyway, enjoy

WTF no replies?

Looks good, like you said time and RAM stopped you from fixing stuff (I know how that is w/ FR)

Good stuff, no complaints here.

I think it's beautiful!

I'd love to hear more about your lighting setup, and what kind of radiosity settings you used in fR. The textures on the blankets are so very nice!!

Oh, and what kind of render times did you get?

Thank you very much for your critics!

It is true that some artefacts can be seen, those are the problems that i mentioned that i had with the rendering process... i only have 512 mb RAM and i didnt adjust any of the msp parameters (which i probably should have), so it was hard to get it to render without chewing up virtual memory...time killer as you know. Beside that, i have several materials with subsurface scattering, such as the lamp shades and the plants petals. All together, the 800x600 image took me about 30min to analyze and some 25 min to render it with reflections and bla bla bla...

One question: when some of you say that rendertime was like 30min prepass and 10 min render, how do you know it was like that? I usually make one render with show samples on and another with samples off...i find it quicker than doing a straight render with samples off and waiting to analyze pass to finish.

Here are the settings i used. I used global for all objects but the wall that i used the local settings as shown...

I leave you with another image of it. I love this little boxes, so i decided to show them

Well it may be quicker when you render it the secnod time. Because FR saves off that last calculation of the GI, thus if nothing moves then it will be the same (Thats the Resuse solution check)

Very nice stuff, the ONLY thing i noticed, was in the second shot, on the top of the wirror, it loks as if there isnt a ceiling, and you can see the background (Its pure white)

Sub surface will do that. One question, how th F*CK did you do that pillows and blanket, was that sub. surface as well?

Now imaginge rendering that off for print (It took me about 6 hours to render this at 8.5 11 at 300dpi) Click for post (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28640)

Wow man!! awesome! the lightening is .. . .. no words... :D

greate scene dude! are you planning to make some animation ? movie ?

Madail
01-05-2003, 04:19 PM
Nope, for now im not thinking of doing any animation...time is short and i think for having nice results i would probably need more ram...

When i have it, maybe i'll do it...

very nice images. The only thing that looks funny to me is the pillow. It should droop into that crevase a lot more than it is. Right now, it looks like there is a board on the inside holding its shape...not a very comfortable pillow.

other than that, I wouldn't make any changes.

yes, stephen, your quite right...

The pillow looks very hard, specially from the side view.
It was one thing that i forgot to solve, and only noticed after rendering...

But it could be easily be one of those hard shaped pillows, only for decorative purposes, i guess

cheers!
