@##$%$#@ I wish the discount was retroactive:sad::rolleyes:. I got the Europe 2 DVD and have no complaints. I'm making logs out of them also and works well.

How are they, speed-wise, in Cinema? Are they so dense that they slow the viewport down a lot?

Are they worth getting if you don't own XFrog? I'm assuming you can bring in the plants without XFRog, you just can't edit them, right?

out of the 3 trees provided the smaller of the 3 i find ideal. renders pretty fast too, also depends on the gi value you give it. and yep, just in c4d what you see is what you get, altho you can optomise the mesh somewhat.

thanks for the linky :)

I updated 3 of my 9 libraries to V2 a few weeks back. A DEFINATE improvement. They went thru and reworked what appears to be about 90% of the models. And they now come in C4D format so none of the texture headaches from the the first batch. (all the textures were named bark.tif and leaf.tif, had to manually rename all of them) Anyway their highly recommended. What they haven't done yet is address the size issue. They still are huge files within Cinema. The first one I pulled up was 15mb in size. (I'm told this issue will be addressed in the near future)

Xfrog tree library is indeed very good. I use it a lot. Still considering updating to V2 libraries. The high polycounts are a pity. What would be the best technique to make them render faster? I need them often in animations, so a billboard won't always work.

What I do, for what it's worth, the models come in as groups. I go thru and delete the smallest branches first and check the memory. I keep deleting branches until I get to something useful. I find the full leaves often hide the absence of smaller branches. Other than that I've talked to Greenworks about reducing the poly count on the branches, which you can do with the full version of Xfrog. (but I never figured out how)

good luck

Ok thanks! I was also thinking of deleting some of the branches and other unseen parts. I wasn't aware there was a possibility in Xfrog to reduce the polycount of the models. I'll try to find out how that works!

good answers but in fact i never tried prebuilt plant models before (selfmade is the respectable...)... so i was wondering about a socalled Version2!

i never used any Version1 plant model so far! Anyway, i better specify my question:
some of the plants seem to work accurately in any host application, but others do not (i found problems loading a model in vue while it works correctly in c4d). Does not seem to be a problem of the xfrog models (hope so :-) but more related to vue??!! just want to be sure about new software since their offer ends up on 30th April!

Thanx for comments.
Joe
