Great work. I have liked your other models very much, too. Would love to see a wireframe if you care to show it. Great work on your trailer, too.

Perchè non ci fai qualche ammaccatura qua e là? Solitamente questi veicoli percorrono strade sterrate e impervie e non si mettono certo a ripararli dal meccanico... ;)

ThirdEye_01 : It`s an interesting idea to put dents and bruises, if i will have enough time (when all details will be finished) i will model them on bumpers and mudguards

Did you do the water for that trailer with Realwave?

I'm one excited fan of your work!;)  :buttrock:

FeRdI : The Code Guardian project is not mine...i`m just giving a contribution (with other two artists) with some models.

The author is my friend and collegue Marco Spitoni , and this is his website :

Oh...i forgot...Code Guardian is made entirely in Max 4.2 .
Marco did the sea with DreamScape, a plugin by Sitni Sati :

Ah ok, well both of your works rules. ;)
edit: Thanks for the info. The sea looks great. Do you know if he used a GI plugin or did he simulate it by himself?

Your Harbor Crane for Code Guardian looks great too!

FeRdI : He used the new Light Tracer feature of Max 5 to simulate GI, some scenes have been rendered there...

lookin good:thumbsup: a little note tho "ambulance" on the front of the car is usually spelled backwards so you can see it in your rearview mirror.

Peace,

Impressionante, come tutti i tuoi lavori, oltre al modello veramente fatto bene le tue texture sono stupefacenti!!!!
Spero prima o poi di riuscire a fare la metà di quello che fai tu :)
Complimenti!

Back again with an update, most of the texturing is done.
Thanks to ChrisOO for the nice idea of the crack in the glass
About the word "Ambulance" reversed i think it`s an usance that came after that period :
www.eklettica.com/ref1.jpg (http://www.eklettica.com/ref1.jpg)

Oct001 : Yes i generally try to make some picture research on the net or on books about the model i have to do :
www.eklettica.com/ref2.jpg
www.eklettica.com/ref3.jpg (www.eklettica.com/ref2.jpg)

But when i have no blueprints (the most of the cases) and the pictures are differents one from another i simply try to get the right "feeling", giving not too much importance to accuracy.

By the way here`s the latest update :

http://www.eklettica.com/ambulance4.jpg

and a side view that shows many "bugs" i didn`t fix yet ;)

Thanks to you all for the replies

Eklettica, I can honestly say you frighten me... http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/oogle.gif how do you DO that?! I wish I knew enough texturing to say something intelligent on the subject... but the best I can do is to comment that it seems a little too grainy, somehow...

Ciao Gnarly :p

There`s no need to be frightened , it`s really simple to make decent textures with good photographic material. This is my case.
Yes, you are right, some parts are a bit "grainy", i will put this correction in the list of "things to do" .

P.S. Tetsuo the Ironman is reeeeeeally disturbing

that looks AMAZING! you textures are truly stunning. Your models are also great? What style of modeling do you use? SPline based lofting or box modeling? I only ask because i want to be able to do this some day

Marco was kind enough to try to help me with paint scrapes and stuff last year(though i dont think he remembers it) maybe you could give me a little more info. Do you just do it randomly where ever it looks good? or is their some signifince in each of the scrapes locations? or do you kind of base it off scrape locations in reference photos?

BiTMAP
01-06-2003, 05:25 AM
I can say that from exeperience and logic, scrapes/wear/damage/paintchipping, will happen anywere alot of use happens, such as edges were things open, or the centers of doors that are often walked by having the body slide against. Edges of the shape where wind blows across and such, like the edges of the hood, roof.

Your texture work is amazing....stunning. I name you the offical Texture King of all Vehicles (TKV) :p
just half-kidding!

Are the pics here scanline render or GI? I assume you used specular/bump/glossiness maps, etc? Do you use procedural texture or paint by hand? If so, do you use Wacom tablet to paint your textures?

Can you post pics of various texture (bump, color, spec)you use? I love to learn from the work of a great master like you:buttrock:

A MacVey : I guess that Bitmpap answered to your question in the most complete way.

HellRender : lol..yes they are floating

Vorlon : Ok, i`m preparing a breaf visual explainaion of some things involved in the creations of these textures ... i just need some time to write down pictures and notes...maybe it will be of common interests.

See u later :wip:

Really really awesome!
How about showing us some texture layers?:D

 Great job on the paint flaking off the metal. and the bullet holes really give it some history!!

I'm interested in seeing some layers of your textures too!

eheh fErdi, if i had a girl probably i wouldn`t spend so much time on an ambulance :P

Ahem..

Ok, here`s a brief walkthrough in the making of these textures :

http://www.eklettica.com/textut/1.jpg

First of all i collected 3 HI-RES textures to be used as main "ingredients"
(1) is the green metal paint (i had to paint a bit on it to add some dirt)
(2) is the metal under the green paint, the scratched metal
(3) is for the nud on the green paint, well, actualli that picture isn`t exaclty mud but later it will become mud :P
(4) is a side rendering of the back of the ambulance, to be used as painting reference.

http://www.eklettica.com/textut/2.jpg
http://www.eklettica.com/textut/4.jpg

Ok, create a new PS document from the picture (4) copy and paste the textures on it and move the layers in order to have the mesh reference layer on top, mud and scratched metal in the middle and green paint at the bottom. (check the palette layer in above picture)
Now we lower the opacity of the mesh layer (4), keep it very low, but be sure that the profile of the ambulance is still visible, you need it as painting reference.
Once selected the scratched metal layer ,with the erase tool and an irregular shaped brush i deleted stroke after stroke the most of the layer, leaving it only in those parts which are generally most exposed to scratches ... especially on edges , but obviously it`s not a strict rule, use the low opacity layer as reference!
I did the same process with the mud layer, adding a little of brown paint strokes and smudging it a bit in some partrs to add variety and realism.

http://www.eklettica.com/textut/3.jpg

Here`s the final colour/diffuse map, completed with writings and decals.
Decals are made with some layers most of them painted and the medical symbol donwloaded from the net (thanks to ThirdEye for the research) and adaped , i suggest you when you work on complex localized details to organize them in folders (check the layer palette in the picture), it`s quite useful because you can quickly turn off/on the whole set and work on the main texture.

To add a bit of "dirty" feeling at the whole stuff i put the original scrached metal texture layer above the most of the other layers in OVERLAY mode (check the layer palette picture) and, once again, deleting it in some parts.

Ok, it`s late and for some stupid problems i had to rewrite this post two times, next time i will explain about the creation of the specular and bump mup from the same photoshop file.

I hope this explaination can be quite understandable (sorry for my bad english) and not too much banal.

Ciao,Ale

Wow Eklettica! Thank you very much for sharing, it looks awesome to me! And it's clear English to me!

I have one suggestion though. Since some bullets flew right trough the cockpit... uuhm... how about some blood on the inside of the cockpit? Or some old dirty spots (where blood used to be) on the wall, inside?

Well.. maybe I'm somewhat too excited and maybe it's a bit sinister.

Again thanks for sharing, your work is inspiring me very much!

Ooooh... fascinating, and useful!! That's great, it sounds so much easier than it looks... whew...

I have one question-- how do you keep it from having seams, where the mapping of each side of the vehicle overlaps?

Hey great job with both the model and textures - and thanks a bunch for the tutorial.

Only crit I can come upt with could be some more general dusty dirt on the tires.

wow! i think it is a great effort!

the model and texturing are so well made! :bounce:

one of the in-progress shots made me think about UVmapping issues...

how and where do you hide the seams between the different map and projections?

thanks
