I think I've found a really big bug in 3DS Max 5. But before I go and tear down the doors of our friends at Discreet... so if those of you that have Max 5 would try this for me and tell me what it dose too you(Don't worry it's not going to kill your computer or anything like that)
First reset Max.
Open the "Material Editer", next make a "Blend" material. Now click on "Mask", assign a "falloff" map to it. Change the "Falloff Type" to "Shadow / Light".
The next thing you'll need to do is just make any object in the scene and assign the material to it.
OK are you steal with me. Next make a "Skylight" light in your scene, now go up to "Rendering" then "Adv. lighting" and assign "Light tracer".
Now just render your scene and tell me what you get, thanks for all your help with this!!
