Hey guys. I have been slammed lately so I have been neglecting my favorite forum. I apologize....
so I decided to toss up a couple things I have been hammering on lately.
This chic has been sitting on my harddrive for over a month. I couldnt ever get her to look the way I wanted. I opened her up yesteday and tweaked her some. Now I feel comfortable posting her.
This is actually a 11x14 drawing I did for a coworker. He wanted his girlfriend as a manga chic. I am not really into manga, so I did her in my style. He likes it anyway. I did get the pose from a manga pic that he gave me.
The Magic Pen

All hail the new jesus ..... Hawkpray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
01-02-2003, 08:14 PM
simply beautiful. this stuff rocks. i really dig the style of the armored characters.
01-02-2003, 08:16 PM
Damn, I wish I could draw like that.
The second and third pics are most impressive.
Could you please give some info on how you made them, (scanned?, tablet?) and how you painted the colors?
Great job.
01-02-2003, 08:18 PM
these were done by scanning in a pencil/marker sketch. Then I just smudged them around and added adjustment layers in photoshop. I would say these are 80% digital.
01-02-2003, 08:23 PM
The texturing for the manga girl is most impressive!
01-02-2003, 08:25 PM
Right done... I like the alst with wonderful watercolor coloration.
01-02-2003, 08:32 PM

01-02-2003, 08:48 PM
Marvelous, i get the feeling you are not so much done with the first 2 pics.
The Manga/Not so much manga girl is really impressive
01-02-2003, 08:52 PM
They're all really awsome, but how come the middle girl has all that armor, but leaves open so much skin? I never liked that type of design, although it does look really cool :)
01-02-2003, 08:56 PM
now lets see more!!! :)
01-02-2003, 08:59 PM

Aw man ... if you're going to post excellent stuff like this each time you return, feel free to take frequent breaks. Very impressive work hawkprey!
Also - I know this is a very sexist remark, but I couldn't help but think that the girl in the second image can come over and clean my floors with that killer vacuum cleaner anyday.
5 stars and 2 thumbs up

Excellent work. Very inspirational. great details and wonderful extra large sized props.I also like the little guy on the massive weapon of hers. Very nice work.
01-02-2003, 10:10 PM
I was begining to think that HAWKPREY was a figment of the imagination of the 2D Board.
The marine reminds me of CREED (marvel comics)
LOVE THOSE SKI BOOTS WITH HIGH HEELS!
Awww - the teddy bear! How great is that!
(very great is the correct answer)
01-02-2003, 10:34 PM

Nice work Hawk.
My WACOM just saw those pics and is bitching me out now cause I neglect her...she is jealous.
[and that Marine does look alot like Marvel's Creed]
01-02-2003, 10:58 PM
[it looks like final fantasy...]

:buttrock: Great work
01-02-2003, 11:32 PM
woooooow Amazing  :applause:
Man the first one really rocks
The drawing technique is amazing, but I don't understand the content of the second pic. Why would she wear such heavy armor around her shoulders and lower legs, yet her lower waist and thighs are completely exposed? Are you going for some sort of combination of adolescent sexual fantasy blended with sci-fi mech imagery? If so, then why the enormously phallic gun in her hand? It's like I don't know whether to masturbate or go watch Star Wars. Doing both seems odd.
01-02-2003, 11:42 PM
whoa! cool stuff :bounce:
and i really like the last pic!
do you have a website?
01-02-2003, 11:42 PM

Hawkprey I would like to thank you for your images. They are inspirational and motivate me to work harder in produceing better work. Although i am pretty much a novice in 3d i am a veteren in art. Well done, i look forward to your next posts. God Bless.
01-03-2003, 12:53 AM
Carl you are silly.
I actually got on this kick where I wanted to contrast the soft skin of female with blown out gnarly gadgetry. I know it is not functional, but I tackled that peice more like a composition than something that would become an actual game model.
01-03-2003, 01:18 AM
yeah, I really like the mix of heavy metal (literally) with softer touches. The teady bear just tops this effect off. I think its great when you blend huge guns, sexy characters and childish elements like teady-bears or whatever... Its very much like the sketches for StarCraft, things like "your ass here" written on the boots or a heart tattoo and what not...
EDIT: Almost missed it, the armored high-heels. Fabolous! :applause:
01-03-2003, 01:47 AM
Do I even need to tell you that you won this?
You have received the CGtalk choice award for all of them, simply put, works of art!. Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Congrats again, well done, keep it up!
upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame - when it becomes available

gotta add to the praise man, yo are simply great. Your color choice is so subtle and natural feeling.
Guys like you make this forum so much fun to be a part of.
01-04-2003, 07:25 PM
I agree with all the positive feedback you've gotten.
only negative I can see is that you could maybe use a bit
more variety? Like some more styles of creatures, or maybe
vehicles or environments or something?
But as long as your doing what makes you happy, I say keep at it.
01-09-2003, 01:38 AM

i want her over here, right now! :D but watching is better than nothing. keep dumpin'
07-28-2003, 02:37 PM
I must have posted this stuff 3 months ago. When did someone dredge this stuff back up?
Glad its still appealing to some people.
I can barely look at this stuff anymore, it has so many mistakes that I would hopefully not make now.
As far as that soft shading is concerned...... The originals are fairly large at 200 dpi. When I shade with a 1-3px brush at that dpi and then shrink it to 72dpi to fit the web..... things tend to blend and soften up a bit. Does that make sense?
07-29-2003, 12:21 PM
beautiful flesh rendition! always gets me: COld metal against flesh.
Great design and rendering

11-26-2004, 06:49 PM

12-30-2004, 04:49 PM

01-05-2005, 04:09 PM
I've looked at these drawings for soo long and now they finally made me become a member of this forum just to post a reply to them. Yeah i may be new here, but i know talent when i see it and this is talent. I love the rough, kind of unfinished yet complete sence of the marine and the almost defiant tattoo chic. Nice kind of ambience with the teddy bear and the muted palette. The other girl is really well done as well. I've never really seen this style before, what were your influences? How did you create your own kind of art? Were there other artists you looked up to as well that might have impacted the way you create? I would really like to know because so far your art has really influenced mine.
