Hi,
I did this as modelling/anatomy study. I tried to model the head of Grace Kelly. Software used: Realsoft 3D V. 4.5

This thread got already one time deleted. So I'm trying it with "character" before "Grace Kelly". I hope it's ok now.

thanx for the nice comments.
@ Lukashi: You are right with the hair. I'm also not totally satisfied with it. I haven't got any hair plugin and it was a real pain to build a good fade shader which did this job. This could be improved. I agree.

Really great image Boris, I have followed the development of this model and I think u have captured a good likeness, although I still feel there is something a little out of proportion, almost a caricature feel, but I cant put my finger on it.

Great work :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I think the shape of the head is a bit off, if you are going for a real looking Grace Kelly. But I think the image is really good, in an artsy type of way.

Here is the main reference picture I used. Reference picture (http://www.3ddart.com/gk2.jpg) Perhaps it gives you an idea what is off. I've worked a bit to long at this head and am a bit blind meanwhile :)

I think you have done a good job Boris, but as mentioned it is the headshape that makes it look a bit strange. I have made a very quick Photoshop-fix to show you what I mean. :)

Yup ... I see it now also. Thank you for the input. Grumml ... :shame: forgetting a quarter of the back of the head

Very nice! But as for the likeness of Grace, I think the mouth is too big (too wide, and the lips are thicker)... and the black line between the top center teeth too prominent, the slope from the cheeks up to the ridge of the nose too sharp and angular, and the neck is too straight and tubular (I mean it should be tilted and thicker at the bottom).

Raise the gamma of your image, try more fill light to brighten the shadows, and crop/size it the same as the reference, place it next to the ref photo and just... compare...
Jot down notes about what you might change. When you run out of notes it means it's time to stop comparing and go back to the 3d model. (This is what I do sometimes for photorealistic jobs, I find it very helpful. The trick is to eliminate all the inconsequential differences such as grain and gamma and size, so you can focus on the important aspects.)

Boris,
I know you also have the colour version there and you had a dilema deciding which one u would post, would you mind posting it also.. because imho the colour one showed off the eyes to great effect...

Very stylish head, Boris. Not that I could do any better... by far not :), but I somehow think that the "Haaransatz" (for non-german folks: the line where the hair grows from the skin) does not fit the reference picture. Also the "thickness/volume" of the hair could be bigger IMHO.

BTW, do you continue to fine-tune the head or regard it as finshed work at some time? I wonder if one can regard 3D-models like sourcecode... releasing revision after revision :)

Best regards...

@Stahlberg: many thanx for taking the time. The mouth and the pine brought me in some trouble. Because it looks on every reference pic a bit different. Neck will be fixed.
The other tips will bring some order in my chaotic workflow. Thanx again.
@Lukashi: thanx
@Vikingboy: I hope you don't mind if I keep it b/w. I want to work later on a proper UV-map.
@MacSlow: yup it seems that this version 1.0 is buggy like software released the first time. ;) Yes ... I'll work further on the model. Thanx to all the great tips I see much room for improvement.
