Hm... I just finished this illustration and submitted it for the gallery. Then I realized the CG Challenge is still running for a month. I could do another one with this concept... Maybe from a different POV and with a bit more action going on.
I don't have much time, but it would be a lot of fun. I hope I'll be able to finish it. We'll see...
Cheers, Jeroen

all of the 3 studies are interesting. 1 & 3 are commendable for the wide angle shot. but the 2nd one gives the focus on the character and to the path to the journey. so either one of these studies you choose has potential. great work, goodluck

I think I'll keep it like this. I don't want to make it all too complicated. I tend to bring in too much detail and loose the bigger picture with these challenges. Not this time I hope :)

Let's start with the sky. Just like Bob Ross used to do :D

Foreground is just a 5 minutes scribble for the WIP.

Using Photoshop and Painter back and forward. Having a little doubt about the concept. But I have some ideas to spice up the scene.

Time I should start working on the character...

very good! i like what you did with the sky complimenting the ground below it- gives the impression that theres a world out there thats waiting to be explored. are you using Photoshop and Illustrator?
make the path or journey along the horizon very visible.

I'm using Painter and Photoshop for the background. I'll be using Illustrator and Photoshop later for the character. The style will be something like the 1st concept sketch.
Thanks for the comment.

Time for a new colouring WIP.
I have a new idea for the concept. I dunno, I'm not so sure about the robot stuff. I think I'll draw in a little kid on a banana seat bike that's going fishing or something.
I started the landscape with some French cornfield landscape in mind, but it seems to be turning out as the dune landscape from my own childhood. I don't mind. I think I prefer the last :)
edit: have to get rid of the mountains. No mountains here in Holland LOL

interesting style, but seriously there is no story behind the picture. i know its not finished but even the bycle riders are not letting me feel there is a journey story. keep it up.

I agree.
So that's why I've changed the concept to a little kid that's going fishing. Bit of a '70-s nostalgia thing. Maybe with a dog or something.

Using illustrator for the basic shapes of the bike and the kid. The dog still needs a lot of tweeking, being too dark is it's major problem.

I'm doing a border collie. I don't really like dogs, don't really trust them. But a guy at work has a border collie and it looks nice. From a little distance ;)

Oh great... I've twisted my wrist last week, opening a jar. I'm not gonna work on this piece for a while to give my arm some rest... I hope I'll be able to finish it in time.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I will not be able to finish it before the deadline.
My wrist is fine now, but at the moment I have more important things on my mind.
I got married 3 days ago :)

That is super! Congratulation. That is naturally more important. Harm around the picture. Possibly you can make it later times finished. Because which for a long time waits, waits at the long end to for a long time.

Hey there,
I'll be dead honest with you and as much as i like the color themes i think you should rework the composition just a little and also the background. Maybe leave a little more space out to see the horizon and what's behind the character. Also not make the hills in the background "huge" and almost reaching out in the sky or else you would have to make them more hard-edged and also rocky and not covered with grass (hills arn't just giant slopes/curves sliding across the horizon, they can be different alternatives and different types of trees/vegetations). Give more diversity to you hills. On the good side I really like what you're doing with your plants and the foreground. (this is just suggestions, take it as a grain of salt) But good progress going on there. Good luck with your work and your life friend!
