Ok, so I'm really new here and fairly new to painting. I've done it before, I have a thorough knowledge of photoshop, but I want to increase my skills here. I know I'm a little bit late, but I'll try to finish this contest as best I can. I know my sketch is kind of vague so I'll fill you in a little bit...Michael needs to cross the lava river and get up to the peak of the volcano....just think Lord of the Rings.

So yeah like I said I'm very new, so any advice is helpful...

Edit: how do I make it just come up as a picture like in everybody elses thread instead of just a link?

So I did a quick color sketch. I don't really like the color of the lava for some reason, so if anyone has any specific tips on that, I am all ears. And of course any other advice is always welcome. Edit: why is it uploading at such low quality? too big?

My computer was making it save in really low quality settings for some reason so I made it smaller for you guys...

Alright changed some stuff up a bit, added a few things...just going through my process.

Some critiques would be GREATLY appreciated...

Hey, just some thoughts, you could move the figure back a little bit, i deffinately wouldnt be standing so close to the lava, but you couls still pick the figure out with red and yellow highlights from the lava, you also need to look at some lava photos there is a lot of yellow and orange but the only colour you have included is red, also it might look better if you chose a slightly more interesting sky

Alright thanks for the tips. I guess I get your point about the figure, and I was never really sure what lava looked like exactly, I'll get some pics here in a little bit. Anyways, this is just a concept sketch so i just wanted to get the vague colors of each piece down, so a more interesting sky is definately to come.
