I'm going to be brutaly honest, you are modeling a human and even though your attempt may have failed miserably it remains to be a humble attempt none the less.
I'm going to try and help you out.
First of all you seem to be having great difficulty understanding the basic prinicples of modeling in general, so I would suggest to try and find a few general resources.
www.flay.com for lightwave is good . www.3dluvr.com for max :)
Second You are attempting to model the whole figure right off the bat, it's obviously not working.
I am going to suggest you concentrate on seperate peices of the anatomy, model a hand a leg, a foot, a torso, and keep modeling/remodeling and practicing that part until it gets better :)
Also try your best to follow "edge loop" you can look up the term on "search" for these forums. As well try not to make things so boxy, use curves instead of straight jagged edges.
Apart from that good start.
Remember, go read and start with torso or arm or leg or even a part of the face like the nose :)
