View Full Version : Other dof than lenscare or default?
LarsSon 04-21-2006, 06:43 PM Hi
Is there any other dof plugin than lenscare for combustion 4?
Lenscare is perfect, but for my current film project it's too slow.
Default dof effect in combustion is really bad. I can use box mode only and
that doesn't look good. If i use gaussian, it won't blur alpha only the texture. How silly!?
So any ideas?
(i'm using C4 with rpf rendered from Max)
Thanks,
LarsSon

I don't know a single plugin, but you can use the (depth)blurs of genarts sapphire box.
http://www.genarts.com
Another would be Tinderbox 2 from The Foundry

There is a Lensblur which you can use by duplicating your layer and apply the zdepth as matte to the top one.
Hope that helps

Of course - Sapphire!!!
Thank you very much.

...but there is no dof effect in Sapphire.
There is rack-focus and those kind of things, but can't get dof with any of those.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I downloaded the demo version of Sapphire.
So i'm really new with that set. Is there away to do dof with it?

ATM I am not sitting in front of c4 and sapphire, but I would suggest:
- duplicate your layer
- apply the defocusblur sapphire or whatever to the that layer
- use the Zdepth image as matte for that layer with the layer stencil function or with the set matte operator
- to extract the zdepth out of rpf, you can use the show g-buffer op
- tweaking the Zdepth via Levels/Histogramm might help also

I tought it could work that way too, but there is no
way to descripe what layer or channel to use for depth information.
I do know how it should work, but it just wont work.
Well, thanks anyway.

If I had to do DOF in Combustion I'd go for this plugin :

:) Me too, but that was my question.
Is there any other way? I have frichluft and it's perfect, but too slow.
I need faster than Frischluft and better than Combustion default dof.
I haven't found anything.

Hi,
the only other 2 I know of are True Camera Blur (part of the Imagelounge/Puffin/Red Giant plugins, but I don't think it's been updated in years)
and this one
http://www.reiji.net/op-e/
A Japanese company with a plugin called Final Focus. I did try it well over a year ago, and it didn't work with combustion at that time (it's an AE plugin like Lenscare), but it may have changed since then.
Cheers,
Steve

Actually it seems that there is another plugin (Iris filter which works with a depth map) at the same URL.
It looks like Final Focus is more of a global layer defocussing - a separate product where Lenscare has both in the same package.

Thanks Steve!
Irisfilter looks really good. Sad that they have really limited demo version.
You can render only 300x300 images with it. And they are not sure will it work
with Combustion. Does anyone have it? Any experiences?
btw - quite expensive dof plugin. But if it's fast and looks so good, i'm ready for it.

Hi,
That's a shame that they've limited it to a size rather than just watermarked it, it's pretty hard to gauge how quick it is.
It's a shame that Lenscare is slow, I've wondered if there's any functions on 3D cards that could be used to speed the process up.
