Well I got fed up for awhile trying to make a realistic 3D women so I decided to take a break and do a little test model to try out some new features in xsi 3. It's a little knomy....little bugger. Anyways almost done modeling, just some more details to ears and then the inside of mouth and all done. Gonna texture him up with wrinkles and some moles, testing displacment, then get the translucency going on the ears, and then add the hair trying to make it look all ratty and wet. Anyways more to come, these are just some quick renders so see how the form is coming along.

looks like Nosey, from the Crystal Method song, "Name of the Game" . Great modelling.

Okay update time....:) I worked all last night to finish modeling him, and get him rough weighted, plus I played with some new ideas for him... So im kinda thinking he will be a bounty hunter, or a piolet of some kind. Futuristic of course, but with a wonderfull touch of fantasy.. anyways comments welcomed..
Im still working on the mouth, gotta finish the teeth and gums, and get in the tongue. Im planning to control all the facial animation, if any, with shapes, still alot of work left on him. Texturing soon, unwrap later today prolly and get some hair on him....

that looks great! Can we get a wire shot? I cant wait to see the displacement applied. If you can get all those subtle wrikles and bumps it will be ace;)

The characteristics that shine through such small eyes are astonishing. He is most definitely suited to become a bounty hunter.

Enjoy yourself on this one :)

Spirit2029 I know you don't know me at all and I am brand new to the whole CG world, still trying to get started, but in all honesty it was you who got me interested in CG and these forums in the first place. :applause:

Yes, you, I am an anonymous and diehard fan, after that car you modeled... wow. I saw that and instantly fell in love and wanted to learn how to make stuff like that. Whoo doggies. And once again I am impressed, I think this looks great so far and am in no way dissapointed! Just what I expect from ya Spirit2029, good job!

Good job keep up the good work... I think he looks like a pilot.

Hey Riven wow thanks. My best suggestion to you if you are just starting, start drawing 3 times a day, get a good computer, find the software you want to use online, I suggest XSI, and teach yourself. You'll learn way more by trial and error then someone showing you what buttons to push. Also there is student training packages available from Maya and Softimage for their softawares, have a look into it. Cheers...

Well I came to a disciision last night, he's a futuristic mechanic. I roughed out the body and started concepting out the suit he's wearing lasst night, but no new caps right now. later in the day though.... So his name is "Smitty" and he only stands about 4 feet tall next to a human, he's a little scatter brained, but extremely talented and gifted when it comes to building, engineiring, and repairing anything mechanical or electrical. He is actually a character in the comic im working on on the side, quite a colorful little guy. Anyways more to come, ill get the rough of the body up later today for you all to critique.....

Okay, sorry it took so long, been really busy. Damm work, why cant we artist just work on this stuff all day huh? dont you all agree? Anyways here's a weak update, just roughed out the body and did some planning for his outfit. Also is a shaded and wire of his head, which still isn't finished. Gotta finish the mouth, prolly work on finishing his head tonight.

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/spirit2029/headwire.jpg

The body is just a template for me to work over, while I build his outfit. He only stands about 4 feet tall, but is perfect size for fitting in engine compartments in ships for repairs. He is a mechanic/engineer who builds and fixes advanced vehicals in the SciFi/Fantasy comic im working on.. I was going to use someone else for this role, but he just fits.. Anyways critiques, coments welcomed.. oh any suggestion on tools and such that he should carry very welcomed, think futuristic, but still tools, not like star trek tri corders..

Okay big question for all you XSI users out there. whats going on here?

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/spirit2029/huh.jpg

There is something weird happening with soft shadows and hair. But the hair has all its shadows turned off, even the self shadowing.. It is final gathered, but its not artifacts from that cause it disapears when I turn off soft shadows, or shadow map I guess. Any Ideas?!!!!

If I cant figure it out ill just have to render out the skin with shadows and the hair on seperate layer and comp, but thats a pain...So here it is with regular shadows, no problems, except they look like shit.

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/spirit2029/fix.jpg

and then without any shadows at all, anyways what do you all think of the beard and the rest of the hair now?

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/spirit2029/headdif.1.jpg

He is suppose to be middle aged, and quite scruffy looking. So if anyone has any idea of the problem please let me know...

any suggestions on the hair or whatever welcomed, he's suppose to be rather grungy...
