I posted this in the WIP section initially because I saw them there before, so im reposting here.

I'm entering this competition but im not sure if I will have quite enough time with school and all. I'm doing this because I think it will be a fun project because I love modelling and it should be a good peice for my portfoloio/demo reel.

Ive done a lot of heads but never a body so I hope by studying wireframes of my fellow competitors Ill figure it out.

I estimage this to be about 3-4 hours of work, im surprised at how long it took me. All the same, here it is, a wire and first render. Enjoy :)

EDIT: Ive dont a little more on the brow and nose, and eye, i hope to be down to the mouth tonight because I have no school.

By the way, is this render size okay?

This really sucks, XSI keeps crashing after a while of use in the scene. Ive tried rebooting and deleting prefs, but no help. Maybe Ill reinstal. I just formated windows a few days ago. Whats going on?!?!

Edit: Restarted after uninstaling video card drivers and reinstaled drivers. Seems to be ok right now. Hasnt crashed yet.

Here's an update, dont pay attention to the bottom half after the line. much more detail will be added. I want to do the hair, but I want to see someone else do it first. :)

Removed.

Nice going virtuosity! Keep refining and you are going to have it! I don't envy you when you get to the hair though. hehehe By the way, does anybody know the story behind the heart shaped eyes and why Michelangelo chose to go that direction?

I roughed out the anatomy, here is a render. I would like to get a good material and lighting in my scene but I dont really know how. Ive never done a WIP with anatomy, just cars and trains and inorganic things. Any suggestions on that would be a big help

Here it is . Removed.

I've had very little time to work on this project, next render will be of the redifined abdomine hopefully.

I know what you mean, time is very important for this challenge. And modeling something realistic and organic just makes it that much more challenging.

So far your model is looking good.

Just a lil tip, if you don't mind. Keep on roughing out the forms first like you're doing now, don't add detail until you have the forms and you absolutely have too. Push the edges, points and/or poly to the limit, and when you can't push them anymore, that's when you add more. Then push those, then you add more, etc...etc...

Everyone have they're own way of modeling, but you'll find by doing it like this, in stages, that you don't have to tweak your model as much later on. Which will save you time.

Ok heres an update

Btw... I've learned that organic modelling is extremely difficult... Wow. That was really tough.

I'm going to begin his right arm now.

Yes it can be, but it's not impossible. Good references, a lil skill, patients and time is all you need. Use the scanView, it will help alot.

You have a good start. Keep'em coming.

Thanks binder (What I lack is time for the most part.). Heres an update on the arm, I think ill make his head and hair now that oDdity has done it and had nice results.

EDIT: Tried doing the hair, still having a lot of dificulties. I finished off the head and the ear though. Now im working on the legs.

habs111

Ok here's the legs complete. Next the genitals and the hair hopefully. Then the ground and I think thats it. Hopefully ill get some time to refine it once everything is done. But I have a big project due this week so I'm going to have to be fast.

Since noone else is, ill crit my own work. :)

-need to fix the left hand
-detail his stomach
-finish thing that he holds onto
-fix/detail the tree thing behind his right leg
-detail the thing he stands on
-create his hair (cant)
-fix both arms

I think this project will be close, but Ill try to get this whole project wrapped up by sat/sun. Still have to do his back.

To save time, I wouldn't model the tree thing, it's really about David anyway. I would forget about the cloth thingy also, ( but I think you've already done that ) Your model is good, but it's missing a crazy amount of detail. I don't want to tell you what to do, but my suggestion would be to study just one part ( find the easiliest, ;) ) and model it and turn it in as a body part.

You said U can't do the hair ( and I feel you on that one ) so it wouldn't make any sense modeling the whole figure and can't do the hair.

Just FYI, if you can model the pubic hairs *which you did a good job on* you can model the hair on his head. They both are pretty much the same, it's just that the hair on his head moves away from the body more and branches out.

Time is short and I would really like to see you finish.

Hmm... I think I would rather try to fix it and model the entire thing. To me it seems like The chest was a little different then I discovered the relax tool in XSI. I may have gone overboard. I didnt think I was missing that much detail. I definately know that the chest needs a ton more detail. So I have about 4.5 days left, I think I can do those changes. :)

EDIT: and his feet need a lot more detail as well.

By the way, does our project have to be complete by monday, or turned in at like midnight. lol

Ok, so heres a small update, the head is now much better than it was on the first page. Im going to use Staszek's method for the hair as shown in this image. http://forums.cgsociety.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=95395 As soon as its complete, i'll post a screen shot.

I also need to redo the ear completely, I really screwed up on it, its surpising because I do faces all the time.

Also here's a slightly earlier screen shot of the whole body. http://members.cox.net/garrettgjb/davidre1.jpg

I'm not sure where you're getting your references for the head....but I think this one's a lil distorted....his ears and mouth are too small which in turn makes the nose look too long and the eyes too big. If you're using the scanView, you might be taking the pics way too close. I mean it resembles David's face...there's just a few proportional issues......try taking the images at midRange. Hope that helps...

goodWork!!

Ya your probably right because I re did the face and screwed up some of the proportions, ill fix that after I finish the hair. Thanks for the comments and crits.

Ok, I've done a lot now, I redid a lot of the face. Like the ears and the overall proportions, smoothness. Im individually placing every hair so its taking a long time. Getting close to being finished, hopefully in the next few days I'll have it completed. Tell me what you think, I could use some feedback.

Hello, I'd really like some comments/crits. I feel like im posting to myself. I finished the right hand for the most part. Now I'll be working on the right arm then next the chest, and stomach. After that, I think I will start trying to get a good render because it will be near complete.

your model is getting better....but still lacks definition....and remember that when you say "Alright guys, all I ask is one comment".....that you're not going to get much of a response b/c there's only 3 people that replied to your thread....so were the only ones that are going to see it.....:) anyways....

there's several places on your model that could be better....I've included a couple of images....study them.... ....you're getting there!!
