How can custom Icons be created for Maya Nodes? not by using grab to Hypershade, i mean changing the mrsss_fast shader node, or a utillity node.

let's say you want to add an icon to the shader called my_shader:
* for hypershade icons you need to make an icon (in *.fti format) called my_shader.fti and place it in your icons dir.
* for the create render node window / hypershade create bar you need to create an icon (in xpm format... i think bmp works also ) called render_my_shader.xpm and place it in your icons dir.

Also, in maya 7, you can make interactive swatches for most single-output nodes that output a color by adding several lines to the mentalrayCustomNodeClass.mel script from the Maya7.0/scripts.
