Hi I want to make my character sit... but I cant... And since I notice other people
with the same skeleton... and they dont have this problem... (I think)..... I would want to
know how they let their character sit....

I dont want to search this up in a tutorial... so I just Ask you guys (that are very smart)

so how must I let him sit?

I was told That making the IK handle a sticky would help.. so i did that but then animation wont work.. it would get all messed up after setting the keys, giving me the solution to this animation problem would also be fine.

So, if you grab the root joint (which I assume is his pelvis) and drag it downwards, what actually goes wrong?

ummm... Yeah, looks like a case of grabbing the route and moving it down!

I'm not sure what's happening in your scene but I don't use sticky IK anyway. I group the IK handles and parent them to a foot control anyway.

oke could you make that clearer?

Yes, it is very easy. I do it all the time. It works all the time.
Now if you want some assistance, please explain what happens with your set up and then maybe somebody can try and guess what you have done wrong.

Do the feet move? Are you keying the IK handles or other joints? Without some information from you we can't help.

is this even a serious thread?
9 posts and knowone knows what the question is!

seriously, search the net for any leg or ik or.. anything tutorial and you will get the answer.
"reverse foot" is probably best...

or, if you really want to go crazy... read the manual that comes with maya.

im sry... but im dutch please forgive me.... I hate myself...

OKAY HERE! :

i make a leg of joints (joints point downwards)

I Set an Ik handle

The I set a sticky on the ik handle (which is the foot)

Then I set a key at 1

and select the top joint

and move it left down so the whole leg is in a sitting position

and then i set a key on 20

And then I play the whole animation

And it screws up...

HOW IT SCREWS UP:

while playing the animation, the leg sits but its like:

ive moved the ik upwards to let the leg sit and then move the whole leg on the grid....

which is what i didnt meant to do...

I hope this is clear

key or group the ik handle.

Sry but what do you mean exactly?

grouping the Leg IKs and the root and move it downwards?

that doesnt work... I hope you mean somthing else...

dont think im stupid... im very good at modelling.. I just started rigging and animating with it

press F1 and search for "key" or "group". If you even used maya for more then a few minutes you should know these words. They are _everywhere_.

Im so ****ING sorry... I didnt take your solution litterarly... (litterraely literaly...)

So I just did it literaly (?) and it worked! grouping the ik...

I just thought grouping one object on itself wouldnt work...

sry for my stubborn behaviour... maybe its because im dutch...

EDIT:

how can I lock the foot joint? cause when i animate him sitting, the foot goes under the grid cause when the lowerleg moves the foot goes with it automaticaly

ill just send a pic...

Hey there, seems like you are completely new to rigging.
Let me try and help you.

First off, what u have in that picture are just joints, they are the foundation for a rigg. U still need to build "CONTROLS" for the character in order to animate or Pose him.

The basic CONTROLS you need to animate or pose a character is being able to move the root down and have the legs planted. You need something called as a "Reverse Foot Setup".
Try searching the forums with "Reverse foot setup" as your key word and u'll do just fine.

If you just want to Pose him and not deal with all of this, then draw another IK handle from the Ankle joint to the Ball joint and another ik handle from the Ball joint to the Toe joint.
Take all 3 ik handles and group them together, put the pivot point of the group node at the ankle.
Now when you move the root, the feet should be planted.
cheers.
Modi.

this thread is going to go on forever if you refuse to actually take the advise you are given!
I'm not sure why you even ask

read my first post.

BTW know one settles for this.
and ironically the answer to your second question is the same as your first question.

being a beginner does not bother anyone...
asking for advies then ignoring it does..

anyway, cos I'm such a nice guy

here (http://rigging101.com/) is the answer to all your questions.

just click on the "free stuff" link.
