Hi ...Guagua ....

Was wondering if that horse has the ability to be turned around in space like the human
face that you created...so that a three quarter view ect. can be see, ...or coming straight
at the viewer, so that it appears to be in deep space.
I have not been able to figure out that part of Z BRUSH yet.. ....I know how to do the
relief or two and a half D, ....But have not been able to add the other side, to get the symetry
to make it a three dememsional figure that can be spun around in space, and viewed from
different angle's or positions. creating the illusion of deep space.

Was wondering if you have any other programs, such as PAINTER,....and also if you have any other Burne Hogarth books such as DYNAMIC ANATOMY...ECT.

At the monment, I am trying to combine my limited knowelage of Z BRUSH with my paintings
done in PAINTER # 9......example can be seen on last page of my anatomy thread....human
face....Z BRUSH, ....rest of painting,....HORSE ....LIONS ...ECT. done using PAINTER # 9..

Would like to know what you are planning to do with these figures that you have created.
Are you going for anamation scenes, or are you planning on doing something totally
different with them, like finished paintings ect.....just curious...

I really like that horse...but woud like to see some wind in the hair on it's tail and mane
That's just me though....:)

KEEP POSTING THESE, ....I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE.
Perhaps we can teach each other, what the other does not know, but would like to learn..

hi Glenn

the horse was modeled use the zsphere, then make a polymesh.i have a painter come with a wacom tablet,so many brushes!:D i was little bit confuse about it ,but indeed it is a good artist tool.there's a smart symmetry under the tool-->deformation,you can ctrl click to mask one side you don't wanna change and hit that button, make your model symmetry.
recently i am aim for a better knowledge about creatures' muscle, the bone constructions, then i could modeling and sculpting more freely,i don't know animation currently, was planning skilled modeling and texturing before i moving into the wonderful field of animation, seems have a long long way to go:D ,all the models was posed by zsphere or in maya beforehand, and sculpt...sculpt..and sculpt..in zbrush, lol
it's my fortune to study with a artistic and warmhearted man :)

Very cool work! It seems the body may be a bit small for the horse part of him? His arms also seem just a little large. But this is really impressive! :)

Hi guagua, :)

I still think the body could be almost twice the size it is now, but I don't know how difficult it would be to resize it that much. :) Nice to see a hand study! I think you have a great start, but I think the thumb seems a bit small, and perhaps needs to connect a bit better with the palm of the hand.

Great to see your work so far!

Cheers, :)

If you look at the Boris Vallejo link :
BORIS VALLEJO
http://fantasy.bratsk.net/ (http://fantasy.bratsk.net/)
The third painting in the first set of paintings is a centaur that might help you out on the proportions of yours. http://fantasy.bratsk.net/cgi/show.cgi?Id=3 (http://fantasy.bratsk.net/cgi/show.cgi?Id=3)

Also study his colors. If you want to learn about color, he is the man to do it from.
Study his paintings carefully and you will learn.

A great book on color theory:
“Capturing Radiant Color in Oils” by Susan Sarback, 1994
expensive - worth it if you can afford it. Might be in your library, don't know.

Another great book and the one that I learned the most about painting from:
“Painting Techniques of the Masters” by Hereward Lester Cooke
Out of print but maybe available used. I found it on:
http://www.alibris.com/ (http://www.alibris.com/)
for about $30 (USD)

I don't know if you have it already, but if you do not, you should get it for sure...great book
.....Dynamic Figure Drawing by....Burne Hogarth...

Hope these help you out some. Looking forward to seeing more of your work and hearing from you.
Posted something for you about color on my anatomy thread.

thanks so much for the link! i saw this image years ago when i was in highschool just from a magazine,it was awesome, but didn't know author's name untill now:cry: BORIS VALLEJO  in fact that centaur i made was come from this picture in my memory. neither the book you recommend is availabe here, but i've downloaded Loomis's books in pdf, seems very useful as well.Burne Hogarth's,of course i have it,was translated in Chinese :D

at 1st,it is really a tough process, but as i paint more, start get a little bit comfort and confidence in painting.many thanks to Glenn and RebeccaK,i dont think i could make progress so quickly without your encouragement and suggestion:). i think its a nice start in my way of painting, cheers!

Hello Guagua

Think your Conan came out fantastic! Thought it would make a great painting with color so I played with it for about 15 minutes in Painter 9.
Just spotlighted, adjusted contrast and blended colors with soft blending brush.

Hope you don't mind me posting this on your thread. Just trying to return the favor that you did for me with Zbrush

Here is a link to the method I use for spotlighting with color etc:

HI...Guagua...

GREAT STUDIES....glad you are finding a use for that LIGHTING and COLOR TECHNIQUE...:)

PAINTER # 9....IN EFFECTS

APPLY SURFACE TEXTURE section...In that color chart with all the little squres of different colors...
if you go to bottom row,

third squre in...left side.. a nice green olive color...pick a medium to light shade of that color
apply to your painting

second squre in...left side..same row....nice golden olive color..has yellow in it...pick a light shade of that color....apply to your painting
and put on top of the first color

second row from bottom...left side...second box in....a nice brown...has orange in that brown...apply to your painting
put that color on top of the other two colors

TONAL CONTROL section
go to ajust color...slide middle bar...SATURATION... all the way to right and you will find... GOLD...:bounce: :scream: :)

TONAL CONTROL section.....Play with the BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST

SURFACE CONTROL section....APPLY LIGHTING
Hit that gold with different colored spot lights, and MAGIC will happen ... ENJOY....

That is the same method and colors that I used to get the golden color on the last set of Z BRUSH figures on my anatomy thread...posted yesterday..:)

guagua,

You have quite the talent there. I looked through your book and all of it is really good. I especially like your Warhammer character, I used to paint and play the model game all the time years back. Keep up the good work!

HEY guagua!
Great thread here.....I missed it before....
I love your 3D work....Its got STYLE!

The character you made from the warhammer concept art may lack what you call "strength" but I feel it is more "stylish" than the original!

Would love to see more updates....
