well ive been trying to make gir from the tv show invader zim, but ive noticed, the artists style is to have thick black lines, allways outlining the charecters. Well im trying to keep with the artist style so is there any way of doing this, i thought of doing this by having a short thick black glow around the charcter but have not yet found how to accomplish such a task

hmmmmmmm, they seem to be all talking about a beta software that does it for them, but i cant find anything on how they did it

those were renders from the bets stage of creating the presets, evrything you see is possible in XL 6 and up with the sla shaders that come with the program. if you need guidance and some presets check this link

However for the style of line your are going for I would actually recomend Naams cel shading using lights instead, much more effective better results for this style too.

I don't get it, why don't you just use the default toon shader... I'm at work so I can't download the .c4d file @ bhodinut but all you're going for is the toon look, right?

Did you need line weighting?

Gir seems to be a pretty popular character to model! There's two threads on him @ Eatpoo's forum, one of which is a C4D rendering.

Good luck w/ this one! No one has made an animatable GIR... and they all used primitives... ACK! I'd like to see someone go the distance!

Mine won't be good for this as I said before NAAMs would be best, the built in toonshader doesn't do a thick enough line, NAAMS could do an awesome line

check out the toonshading tute on my site in the renderzone section... go to the tips section there

also to get a really good effect just render the character on his own and do the outlines as a post effect either using photoshop batch or after effects, that way you can get a really great and controllable effect :) then just composite onto your toon background.
