egselent 04-20-2006, 05:04 PM is it just me or is the animation window in c4d the most unitutive, annoying and anger inducing piece of junk ever invented. from layer management to just finding where the hell anything is!??!!? or is it just me?

I'm not sure your goal in this post is. And when you say 'Animation window' do you mean the timeline? If that is what you mean, then yes a lot of people are too fond of it. There is a lot of people hoping it will change in the next version. Are there features you miss and would like to see added? I'm just not following. Just blowing off steam perhaps?

the timeline is what i meant. blowing off steam is definately one aspect of the post but i really am exasperatted by it - i'd just like to know is anyone actually able to animate a large scene in it without blowing a gasket.....basically am i completeyly missing something when im bumbling around in it- are other programs better in this aspect?

Howdy buds:
There are a number of ways to simplify your working.
Utilize the filters: show animated objects, active objects; etc. . .
Utilize color coded groups: cntrl click the colored square for highlighted items to be labeled. Then hide groups not needed (click eyeball). Also you can zoom and pan and scan in the timeline just like the viewer windows to help frame your keys.
and yes, I've struggled in the window as well, but you've gotta adapt or be squished.

ive struglled manfully with the color picker the last few days - but, and tell me if im wrong - when i choose an object with a sequence to put in a color band it will only put the object in, i have to manually select the sequence then put that in then go back and select the key frames in. i cant just seem to click on something and in on mouse click have it and everything previously recored on it go all at once into the color layer. i must be doing something wrong but cant for the life of me figure out what!!

you have to assign the color layers before you animate, then your sequences and keys will get the same color as your object. not a big problem IMO needs just a bit of thinking ahead.
